10 Great World Football Videos from This Week

Lindsay EanetJun 7, 2018

AC Milan in fake beards! Didier Drogba in lederhosen! Amazing headers! Amazing hat tricks! Stadiums full of two very different sets of rowdy fans with a purpose! Oh, and don't forget the special guest star appearance from Kobe Bryant

It's been a crazy week in the footballing world. Here are 10 of our favorite video clips for your viewing pleasure. If you have more you'd like to share, just send 'em through the comments.

Fenerbahçe's Ladies Night

1 of 10

After male supporters over the age of 12 were banned from two of the Turkish Süper Lig champions' matches after rowdy fans rushed the field during a friendly against Shakhtar Donetsk, Fenerbahçe still got to play to a crowd of more than 40,000 screaming fans.

How? They were all women and children. The club gave away 27,000 free tickets to last week's match at home ground Sukru Saracoglu Stadium to its female and young fans, who proved to be just as loud, raucous and totally in love with the game as their male counterparts. As if there were any doubt.

Look at This Lionel Messi Hat Trick

2 of 10

Just look at it.

The mean, Argentine goal-scoring machine once again made us ponder what planet he actually comes from with a stellar hat trick in Barcelona's 5-0 victory over Atlético Madrid, right after his spiritual rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, netted three of his own against Rayo Vallecano in what was also a great hat-trick (you can watch that one here).

There are many, many fan-made videos of this on YouTube, but we picked this one because the Cardigans song just makes it, you know?

Berba Bowls for Betfair (Young and Evra Too!)

3 of 10

In this new soon-to-be-viral advertisement for Betfair called "Stars and Strikes," Manchester United stars Patrice Evra, Dimitar Berbatov and Ashley Young show off some fancy footwork in a rather unlikely place, the bowling alley. Hilarity ensues, and everyone looks like they're having a good time, which I suppose is the point of advertising anyway, because how are you going to buy stuff if you're not having a good time?

Jone Samuelsen Uses His Head

4 of 10

You mean you've never heard of Odd Grenland?

Well, you will have heard of the Norwegian club now, thanks to this video. Grenland midfielder Jone Samuelsen scored what may be the longest header goal in footballing history, a 62-yarder from his own half. The club plans on submitting the cranial triumph to the Guinness Book of World Records.

AC Milan 'N' Guns 'N' Roses 'N' Beards

5 of 10

Elsewhere in the advertising-with-footballers world, AC Milan fans got quite a sight when they saw their team donning luxurious, flowing ZZ Top-esque beards and rocking out to "Sweet Child O'Mine" (mixing our hard rock reference points a bit?) to film a spot for Nivea for Men.

The banner reads "O smetti di radersi o passi a Nivea for Men," which, according to Google translate, translates roughly to "Or stop or switch to shave Nivea for Men." Fair enough.

Elsewhere in Istanbul, an NBA Star Takes Aim

6 of 10

One of Istanbul's other great clubs made the viral video rounds this week when an American basketball megastar visited their ground.

After donning the Blaugrana two years ago and claiming his love for FC Barcelona, NBA star Kobe Bryant now seems to have switched his loyalties to Galatasaray. While visiting Istanbul on a Nike tour, Bryant stopped at Turk Telekom Arena and took on Cim Bom goalie Ufuk Ceylan in a penalty shootout.

Spoiler alert: He should probably stick with basketball.

Protest and Passion at the Stockholm Derby

7 of 10

Alright, so technically this happened the week before, but it's been making its way across the web since.

Fans of Swedish clubs AIK and Djurgården created a stunning spectacle at the Stockholm Derby as an act of protest against what they see as unfair rhetoric and press treatment regarding fan behavior, particularly at the Derby. So they responded by beginning the match with 10 minutes of absolute silence before erupting in a flurry of chants and flares and electricity. The dynamism of the game is not complete without the fans, and this proves it.

Didier Drogba and Steve Gohouri in Lederhosen

8 of 10

First of all, Didier Drogba and Steve Gohouri in lederhosen. At Oktoberfest. I don't honestly know what other possible justification you possibly need for watch this video from German channel Wiesn-Gaudi TV.

Also, some fans might have expected Didi to kick off when the presenter asked if Gohouri was his "boyfriend," but the two just laughed it off and high-fived. And in a sporting world where stars can sometimes get super-defensive about their sexual orientations and view anything "gay" as an automatic negative, that kind of laid-back response is, well, quite refreshing.

Torres Gets Absolved by an Even More Embarrassing Miss

9 of 10

Remember how Fernando Torres missed that clear, perfect, right-down-the-middle goal opportunity during Chelsea's match against Manchester United and cries of "Worst Miss Ever!" began ringing across the land?

Well, it's your lucky day, Nando, because someone managed to do even worse. Ivan, a player for third-division Spanish side Lugo, may have taken home a 3-1 victory against Alcala, but the match will likely be better known for his tripping over the ball and losing it with a wide open shot on goal at the ready.

And what did Ivan do in response? Blamed the quality of the pitch. He who cannot dance puts the blame on the floor.

Edin Džeko, Linebacker?

10 of 10

Manchester City striker Edin Džeko looked more like he should be playing that other kind of football (that is, the American one) with this rather powerful tackle on Philipp Lahm during Tuesday's Champions League face-off between City and Lahm's Bayern Munich.

As you can imagine, the YouTube comments on this video are super classy.
