Clemson vs. Virginia Tech: TV Schedule, Live Streaming, Radio, Game Time & More
Saturday night will give us a showdown between two undefeated, under-the-radar National Championship contenders.
The Clemson Tigers go on the road to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies.
The Hokies routinely win the ACC, while Clemson frequently enters seasons with a lot of promise that goes unfulfilled.
At this point, both teams have managed to do fine. But something will give on Saturday in this clash between ACC favorites.
Where: Lane Stadium. Blacksburg, Virgina
When: Saturday, October 1 at 6 p.m. EDT.
Watch: ESPN2. Streamed online at ESPN3.
Listen: WCCP 104.9 FM in Clemson. WBRW 105.3 FM in Blacksburg.
Spread
Betonline.com lists the Hokies as seven-point favorites. Given what we've seen this year and in the last few weeks, I would go with Clemson here.
We don't know a lot about what Clemson can do on the road. Their last two wins have both been big, but both at home.
Still, even though Virginia Tech is 4-0 and No. 10 in the country, they have really failed to impress this year. It's hard to say that they will win. It's certainly hard to say that they will win by more than a touchdown.
Over/Under
The over/under of 50 wouldn't appear to be especially daunting here. Both teams have played in high scoring games this year, so to think that they will each score in the mid-20s is quite reasonable.
I don't know that this game will fly past 50, but I would advise the over on this one.
Key Injuries
Clemson P Dawson Zimmerman (leg) is probable.
Clemson WR DeAndre Hopkins (hamstring), RB DJ Howard (hamstring), and LG David Smith (shoulder) are probable.
Clemson DE Joe Gore (knee) is doubtful.
Virginia Tech WR Marcus Davis (foot) and WR Jarrett Boykin (hamstring) are questionable.
Virginia Tech OL David Wang (foot) is out.
Virginia Tech WR Dyrell Roberts (arm) is out for the year.
BCS/Top 25 Poll Implications
Both teams are in the top 15. It's hard to imagine a scenario where either team would come anywhere near dropping out of the Top 25.
But the winner of this game gets a big leg up in the ACC, and is also at least a dark horse National Championship contender.
The loser will have a hard time winning the ACC and will be effectively removed from National Championship contention.
Keys to Clemson Win
Tajh Boyd is playing at an alarmingly great level right now. He's thrown for 13 touchdowns and rushed for two.
Andre Ellington, Mike Bellamy and D.J. Howard are having strong starts to the season on the ground. Sammy Watkins, DeAndre Hopkins and Dwayne Allen are all legitimate passing threats. If their offense connects, the Tigers are a good bet to win.
Keys to Virginia Tech Win
David Wilson is off to a great start this year. He will need to have a good game. Most importantly, Virginia Tech needs to keep Clemson off of the board early.
A hot start from Clemson goes a long way in taking Virginia Tech's home-field advantage away.
Prediction
The home-field advantage is big, but I think Clemson has way too many weapons here. It will be a good game, but I like the Tigers to prevail.
