Minnesota vs. Michigan: TV Schedule, Live Streaming, Radio, Game Time and More

Matt FaulconerSep 28, 2011

The Michigan Wolverines are climbing the rankings with each passing week, while the Minnesota Golden Gophers continue losing.

Michigan is sitting pretty at 4-0, while the Golden Gophers are struggling to stay above water with a 1-3 record.

Minnesota has lost to both New Mexico State and North Dakota State, both quite disappointing losses for a Big Ten school.

Betting Line: -20 according to Bodog Sportsbook

It is always tough to bet a spread that is 20 points or more, but how can anyone bet on Minnesota to cover a spread at this point?

The Golden Gophers are a bad football team plain and simple.

They are coming into one of the toughest places in college football to play a game, and Heisman candidate Denard Robinson is going to have a field day.

Bet the Wolverines with confidence.

BCS/Top 25 Poll Implications

Minnesota doesn't stand a chance at cracking any poll this season, so they will be looking to play spoiler. Michigan looks like a potential contender in the Big Ten, but they are still considered a long shot to make a BCS game.

The Wolverines need a victory to remain in the Top 25, but they likely won't see too much of a boost from this game.

What They're Saying

Minnesota head coach Jerry Kill may be returning to the sidelines this week after checking himself into the Mayo Clinic because of seizure problems according to ESPN:

"

Minnesota coach Jerry Kill returned to work Wednesday and led the team's afternoon practice.

Kill's return comes just three days after he checked into the Mayo Clinic because of recurring seizure problems. The 50-year-old has had two hospital stays since suffering an initial seizure Sept. 10 during Minnesota's game against New Mexico State. While he has dealt with seizures for years, the effects this time had been more severe.

While it's great to hear Kill is back, I'm a little surprised. The statement he issued Sunday after returning to the hospital -- "I hope to be back to work soon, but we believe that taking some time away to get a handle on this is the right thing to do" -- suggested a longer absence than normal.

"

For the Wolverines, they know they need to improve the passing game. According to ESPN:

"Michigan offensive coordinator Al Borges sees flashes of excellence in his offense. But then he also sees the times when nothing seems to go right.

Denard Robinson has shown both, but it seems the only flashes Borges has seen from him in games have been on the ground.

It's not only Robinson's fault, or Borges'. It's the entire offense.

"If the route is supposed to be 12 yards, then we need to run it at 12 yards, we can't run it at 14 to 10," senior tight end Kevin Koger said. "Because that's going to throw Denard off, because he's expecting us to be at 12 yards. And when we're not there, that's when you see the overthrows or the underthrows."

This season, Robinson is completing less than 50 percent of his passes and has already thrown six interceptions. Last season, he completed more than 60 percent of his passes and threw 11 interceptions in 13 games.

"

Michigan Player To Watch

Was there any doubt who this would be?

Denard Robinson has been explosive early in the season once again. He has an explosive passing game against Notre Dame, and has been lighting up the rest of the competition on the ground.

Expect another big week out of the potential Heisman candidate this week.

Minnesota Player To Watch

Outside of an effective run game, Minnesota doesn't have much to work with on offense or defense. Junior QB Marqueis Gray leads the team in both passing yards and rushing yards this year.

Gray is going to need to step up if this team is going to have any chance. He is completing just 50 percent of his passes, and has thrown just three touchdowns this season.

If Gray struggles this week, the Golden Gophers will struggle.

Key Matchup: Michigan offensive line vs. Minnesota defensive line

The Michigan offensive line is both bigger and stronger than the Minnesota defensive line. The Wolverines will try to pound the ball early and often to wear down this Minnesota front.

If the Wolverines can do that, it is going to be a long day for the Golden Gophers.

Biggest Storyline: Can Minnesota pull off improbable upset for their coach?

The Golden Gophers have rallied around head coach Jerry Kill this season, and will want to pull off a stunning upset for him.

His chronic seizures are very unfortunate, and his team will be rallying behind him this week. It's going to be tough to pull off this victory, but the team would love to do something dramatic for their head coach.

Prediction: Minnesota 14 Michigan 38
