WWE Hell in a Cell 2011: My Predictions, and What It'll Mean for the Future
After two long weeks, there's FINALLY another PPV! (Sarcasm.)
The Hell in a Cell match has always given us some of the most brutal moments in wrestling history. However, thanks the the WWE's recent PG image, the cell's violence has been much tamer over the last few years.
Still, there's definitely a few matches worth checking out on Sunday, and plenty of questions that need to be answered.
Will Mark Henry continue his dominance?
Can John Cena come out on top against both Alberto Del Rio and CM Punk?
Will the real Sin Cara please stand up?
There's certainly going to be a few twists and turns on Sunday, too, and it'll be interesting to see what the WWE has in store for us.
Here's a few of my predictions of what we might see at this upcoming event.
Sin Cara vs. Sin Cara
1 of 7SPOILER ALERT
Uh...well, for one thing, I bet you that Sin Cara is going to win. So there's that.
Besides that little nugget of wisdom, there's really not too much to be said about this match besides the fact we're going to see tons of flipping, high-flying and most likely, botching.
At least now we have a blue Sin Cara and a black Sin Cara so we can know who to root for (it's the blue one). But that still doesn't make up for the fact that this match is very weird and a dead end in terms of a storyline.
Expect a quick match, but hopefully a fun one.
Winner: Good Sin Cara, but this feud will keep going a little bit longer.
What's Next?: Another match at Vengeance. Bad Sin Cara will win, culminating in their final showdown at Survivor Series in front of an MSG crowd. If that doesn't get Sin Cara incredibly over, I'm not sure what will.
Divas Title Match: Kelly Kelly vs. Beth Phoenix
2 of 7For the third PPV in a row, The Glamazon Beth Phoenix will go one-on-one with Kelly Kelly and try to capture that elusive Divas Championship.
Kelly Kelly has surprisingly beaten Beth twice now when the title's on the line, but since there's really no other diva who's worthy of a title shot, things aren't going to change anytime soon.
I just don't think Kelly Kelly winning yet again would be beneficial to the division in any way. She's clearly the WWE's top diva with the way they've pushed her lately, but in order for this rivalry to continue, Phoenix has to win. It's not like they have other options.
Winner: Third time's a charm for Beth Phoenix, probably thanks to some interference by Natalya.
What's Next?: A rematch at Vengeance...duh.
Sheamus vs. Christian
3 of 7SPOILER ALERT
In my opinion, this has quickly become one of the most overlooked matches and feuds of the entire HIAC PPV. Both Christian and Sheamus have been two of the hardest-working wrestlers recently, and not just on Smackdown, but in the entire WWE.
These two have been going back and forth over the last few weeks, and although this rivalry is pretty generic in the way it began, their match at Hell in a Cell has the potential to be very fun to watch.
Christian is a vet who has put on some great PPV matches over the last few months with megastar Randy Orton. As for Sheamus, he has quickly become the hottest face on Smackdown. The entire WWE Universe has jumped on The Celtic Warrior's bandwagon, and the sky is certainly the limit for everyone's favorite pale Irishman.
This match has some huge hidden stipulations tied to it as well. Although on the surface it may just look like a decent filler match, it's almost safe to say that whoever wins this match will be next in line for the World Heavyweight Championship. I was going to go with a tie for this one, but after Christian and Orton's match on Smackdown went the way of a double count-out, I just don't see Christian tying yet again this Sunday.
I think we're going to see a pretty big back-and-forth brawl through most of the match, but after a surprise brogue kick, expect the Celtic Warrior to come out on top and continue his climb up the main event ladder. Christian will go back to complaining about how he's going to sue everybody (like always) and continue to linger near the main event scene for a little while longer.
Winner: Sheamus by pinfall
What's Next?: WHC opportunity for Sheamus, probably at the next PPV event in some fashion.
WHC Hell in a Cell Match: Mark Henry vs. Randy Orton
4 of 7This match is going to prove, once and for all, just how historic Mark Henry's World Title reign will be. If Henry can leave HIAC still champion, then I honestly think we may all be in for one of the most dominant championship runs of all time, or at least until The Undertaker comes back.
Henry already defeated Orton pretty handily in their first match, and that wasn't inside a humongous steel cage.
This time, Orton has absolutely no place to run or hide, not like he would in the first place. Even though Orton has never backed down from anyone, Henry should still end up squashing The Viper...but he won't. And there's one reason why.
Kane.
I think The Big Red Machine is coming back on Sunday, and he's probably going to be in a very, very bad mood.
I predict that this match is going to be pretty solid in the fact that Mark Henry will lose the title, but he's still going to be booked very well. His domination on Friday nights is nowhere near finished.
Here's the way I see it—I think you'll see a pretty insane Orton this Sunday, maybe even teetering on downright heel, but that's what must be done to stop Henry. The match will be brutal, it will be suspenseful and it will be fun.
That is, until Cody Rhodes comes down to interfere and tries to take Orton out. Of course, he's going to try and seek revenge for the bloodbath Orton gave him two weeks ago. Whether Rhodes succeeds or gets hit with an RKO, or even gets into the cell in the first place, it'll be enough to give Henry the advantage. World's strongest slam...one, two...cue the fire.
Kane will come down ready for a fight, maybe with the mask, maybe without it. I don't care at this point.
Either way, he'll hopefully rip the door right off its hinges like it's 1997 and finish off The World's Strongest Man.
Orton will sliver in for the pin...and we got ourselves a new champion.
Is it fair that Orton will be the champ again? Not really. Is it right that Mark Henry's moment on top of the mountain ended so quickly? Hell yes.
I've said it from the start, though, I just don't think Henry's reign was ever meant to last. Friday nights will always be The Randy Orton Show, it's as simple as that. Henry's time in the WWE is coming to an end, and I will firmly stand by my opinion that his little reign was simply a way for the WWE to thank him.
Even with the outcome, though, this match will be incredibly eventful.
Rhodes will continue his rise up the main event ladder by making a statement, Henry will get his rematch, continue to be booked as a powerhouse and stay in the main event and The Big Red Monster will officially be back. Not too shabby.
Winner: Randy Orton
What's Next?: The usual. Mark Henry will get his rematch at Vengeance and continue to destroy everyone on the way there while he also tries to get Kane. Expect Sheamus, Rhodes and Christian to get involved to some degree as well, possibly setting up a triple threat or fatal-four-way for the WHC.
WWE Championship Hell in a Cell Match: John Cena vs. CM Punk vs. Alberto Del Rio
5 of 7Out of every match on the HIAC card, this is easily the hardest match to call. Not because of the three great wrestlers who are in the match, but because there has been no real buildup, and after Cena won back at Night Of Champions, I really have no idea what direction the WWE plans on going with these guys.
Why Cena is champ right now still refuses to process with me, considering there's almost no doubt that by November he's going to lose it again in order to team up with The Rock at Survivor Series. Seems like a waste of a title reign for me, and it ruined a potentially decent ADR title run.
There's no way that this match isn't going to get crazy. After all, this will be the first triple-threat HIAC match in history, and some of the backstage insanity will definitely leak into this showdown, whether it be Awesome Truth's return, Nash's return or an intervention by Triple H. No way someone gets pinned in the middle of ring without some controversy surrounding it.
Like I mentioned before, I have no idea who's going to win this...at all.
Cena? Sure, why not? He wins everything anyways.
ADR? Well, it would be strange for him to lose the title just to get in right back, but there's been stranger things. Plus, he's not really involved too much in all this backstage nonsense, so if he won the belt back, it could set up a nice separate storyline and a nice buildup over the next month or so.
Punk? I think he's due for a worthwhile title run, and this may be the perfect moment to do it. He's a bit of an underdog since he was just thrown into this thing due to his star power, but he's still the hottest name in wrestling right now and a main event mainstay.
So, I decided to throw all three names into a hat, like any great analyst would do, and came out with CM Punk.
The hat has spoken.
I can't say that I disagree with my hat; I think it actually makes sense. Punk really isn't up to much right now since his feud with Triple H has somewhat faded, and this win will probably solidify him in the WWE Title main event at Survivor Series. As for Cena, this loss will allow him to get his rematch and stay at the main event at Vengeance.
He'll lose there, and then cruise into his historic showdown at MSG without the belt.
I don't, however, think Punk will win fairly.
Expect controversy, and I'm going to go with some sort of involvement by John Laurinaitis and his new cronies, Awesome Truth. Punk will reluctantly capitalize and win the title, moving things even closer in the direction of Trips and Punk putting aside their differences to fight a bigger foe, since I predict Awesome Truth will target everyone, much like Nash did at the last PPV.
How they'll get in the cell is a completely different story, but there's always some weak ref on the outside holding the keys. All The Miz and Truth have to do is give him a noogie and he'll give it up.
I also don't expect Cena to actually get pinned, because, you know, that's in the rulebook somewhere.
The night will end with a Punk victory, mass chaos, HHH trying to clean things up (like always), an enraged Cena and a whole lot of questions for Monday.
Winner: CM Punk (by pinning ADR)
What's Next?: Who the hell really knows? I'm tired of even trying to figure this whole mess out. All I know is that the madness will continue until The Rock finally returns to lay some smackdown and clean house with Cena by his side...so I expect Cena to really start getting thrown into the mix of this storyline very, very soon.
Other Rumored Matches and Thier Predicted Outcomes
6 of 7Tag Team Championship Match: Air Boom vs. Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger
Rumors have been going around that this match will be a late addition to the card. If that's the case, I might have to lean towards a win for Ziggler and Swagger. It would boost Vickie Guerrero's credibility as a dominant heel manager, and it will start a nice feud between the two teams. Seriously, who is left for Air Boom to fight if they win on Sunday?
So, in order to keep the tag division a little interesting, I'm pulling for Swagger and one of my personal favorite wrestlers right now, Dolph Ziggler, to win the penny belts. But honestly, I hope this match doesn't happen, since I'd rather see this one...
United States Title Match: Dolph Ziggler vs. Zack Ryder
Ryder got his chance on Monday, and thanks to Vickie, his moment was cut short. Luckily, thanks to an awesome Mason Ryan face turn, Ryder was still able to come away with a victory over Ziggler when their match was restarted. Too bad it wasn't for the title.
Still, I don't think Ryder will walk away with the victory. Ziggler's just too good right now, and a feud with him and Mason Ryan is probably building, in my opinion. This match would be just another chance for Ziggler to prove he's a legitimate champion.
But hey...Ryder's going to be on a PPV! IWC, rejoice!
