WWE Hell in a Cell: Why Cell Matches Should Not Be Their Own Pay-Per-View

Marc DensonSep 28, 2011

Hell in a Cell matches have been dazzling and awing professional wrestling fans for the last 15 years. This Sunday, October 2, WWE fans will be treated to the third annual Hell in a Cell pay-per-view.

While the pay-per-views are always exciting and entertaining, the significance and specialness of a Hell in a Cell match is slowly disappearing as a result of stipulated pay-per-views.

The Hell in a Cell match has been tabbed as one of the most physically demanding and brutal matches in wrestling. After being in a match like Hell in a Cell, no superstar ever comes out the same whether they win or lose.

Logan Blasts WWE Fans 😳

Just take a look at how Mick Foley is now, compared to how he was before his epic match against The Undertaker in 1998. In that match, Mick Foley was thrown off the top of the Cell, went through an announcers' table, fell through the top of the Cell, landed on a bag of tacks and broke multiple teeth.

That particular bout set the bar for all future Hell in a Cell matches that would follow. This contest is truly what made the Hell in a Cell stipulation so unique and special to the WWE Universe.

By carelessly grouping all of the Hell in a Cell matches for an entire year into one pay-per-view, it takes away the intriguing edge of the match.

The reason for stipulation matches is to provide something different to the fans. When Hell in a Cell matches were just unexpectedly thrown in at random times, it made the surprised WWE Universe that much more excited.

At the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view however, everyone is expecting that stipulation match to happen, thereby taking away the element of surprise.Though these matches are still very exciting to watch, the fans are not as enthused due to the fact they occur so predictably. There is never a time besides this pay-per-view that this type of match takes place anymore and, with the pay-per-view being named after it, few would want to see it.

This trend, unfortunately, could trickle down to other pay-per-views as well, such as TLC (Tables, Ladders, Chairs), Elimination Chamber, Extreme Rules and Money in the Bank.
