Tony Romo Injury: Updates on Cowboys QB's Week 4 Status and Fantasy Value

Jun 7, 2018

After a gutsy performance against the San Francisco 49ers that saw the enigmatic Tony Romo break his ribs and puncture his lung and still win the game, the Dallas Cowboys captain put the team on his shoulders and helped them win their Monday Night Football battle with the Washington Redskins.

With the Cowboys playing the Detroit Lions this week, the team needs their quarterback now more than ever, and Romo has to answer their call.

Romo was the catalyst to the worst Cowboy collapse in the history of the franchise. He threw three second-half interceptions and the team lost to the Lions by 3 in the final minutes.

It's currently unknown if the injuries were affecting his play but it certainly didn't seem that way. Mental errors are his biggest problem right now.

UPDATE: Sunday, Oct. 2 at 2:35 a.m. EDT

Romo is playing extremely well against the Lions and has not been hindered by his injuries. He is 19 of 24 passing for 195 yards and two touchdowns. Dez Bryant has caught both the touchdowns and the two look to be locked in.

UPDATE: Sunday, Oct. 2 at 11:53 a.m. EDT

As expected, Tony Romo is officially listed as questionable, but he will be on the field for the Cowboys today.

The Lions' front four will look to come after him, and coach Jason Garrett will look to minimize the damage by working in some play-action against Ndamukong Suh and company.

Start Romo if he's your best option on a regular basis. The Lions' secondary can still be beat.

UPDATE: Saturday, Oct. 1 at 4:55 p.m. EDT

There is no way Tony Romo won’t be on the field when the Dallas Cowboys face off with the Detroit Lions on Sunday, and he proved he can play through the pain of his broken rib.

ESPN Dallas is reporting about Tony Romo’s status for Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions:

"

Three starters on the Cowboys’ offense are listed as questionable: quarterback Tony Romo (ribs), receiver Dez Bryant (thigh) and fullback Tony Fiammetta (hamstring). It’d be a major surprise if Romo didn’t play. He said Thursday that he plans to wear a protective vest again and will probably take another pain-killing injection before Sunday’s game against the Lions.

"

Detroit’s secondary is as burnable as the Cowboys’, so this will be an all-out offensive assault and Romo’s fantasy stats will back that up. Expect big points.

UPDATE: Friday, Sept. 30 at 11:56 a.m. EDT

While Tony Romo is fully expected to play against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, it is very apparent that his cracked ribs are still causing him pain. Romo said he may need more pain injections prior to Sunday's game like the ones he took on Monday night before facing the Washington Redskins, according to Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com.

"

"I would say this, there's a test that just goes, come over here (lightly tap his rib area) and see how hard you can do it until I feel it," Romo said after Thursday's practice. "And if I feel it I'm going to need it."

"

UPDATE: Thursday, Sept. 29 at 11:20 a.m. EDT

Washington Redskins OLB Brian Orakpo chimed in on the media's praise of Tony Romo today. He didn't go as far as to say that Romo was faking an injury, but clearly thought that Romo wasn't nearly as injured as the media thought he was,

"

“To me they blown it way out of proportion,” the linebacker said on ESPN 980’s John Thompson Show on Tuesday. “I mean, they tried to make it seem like the guy was hospitalized the night before the game, just so we could build it up if they was to win the game — oh he’s a courageous player to go out there and play. The guy was playing just like Tony Romo, running around, making throws. He got hit throughout the whole game and still getting up. I mean, it was blown way out of proportion, but it is what it is.”

"

UPDATE: Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 5:55 p.m. EDT

Tony Romo has earned many new fans with his acts of toughness this week against the Washington Redskins, but the Dallas Cowboys want to be conservative with their star quarterback.

Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett told ESPN Dallas about Romo’s participation in practice:

"

We just wanted to make sure we got the full content of the work in, but do it at a little different pace and Tony was involved in it.

"

If you have Tony Romo in your fantasy league, this news shows that he will play and be as close to healthy as the team can get him. Let’s just hope the snap issues that plagued the team this week can be figured out during Romo’s limited reps.

UPDATE: Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 2:10 p.m. EDT

Tony Romo quieted the critics with his toughness in Week 2 and last week when he played through a punctured lung and broken ribs and helped the Dallas Cowboys win a nail biter against the Washington Redskins.

There is no question that Tony Romo will start for the Cowboys Sunday when the team takes on the undefeated Detroit Lions, and with the likelihood of this meeting being a offensive track meet, start Romo with confidence.

UPDATE: Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 12:30 p.m. EDT

After gutting it out last in the Cowboys Week 3 matchup against the Redskins, the popular consensus was that Dallas would hold Tony Romo out of practice this week to rest his injuries.

ESPN Dallas is reporting that the star quarterback will be practicing this week despite his rib injury:

"

Tony Romo took part in only one practice last week as he recovered from a punctured lung and fractured rib, but the quarterback will practice today, according to a source, as the Cowboys begin on-field preparations for Sunday’s game vs. Detroit.

"

This game has all the makings of a shootout, with both offenses picking apart the opposition’s defense. If that does come to fruition, Romo is a must-start in any fantasy league.
