NFL Power Rankings Week 4: Which Team Is Best in the League?

Ryan PhillipsSep 28, 2011

Through three weeks of the NFL season, the defending Super Bowl champions have come out and looked as good as anyone. Right now, the Green Bay Packers have to be considered the best team in the league.

The Packers have opened the season with wins over the New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears. While all three games went down to the wire, Green Bay stepped up late in each to secure wins.

The Packers are led by quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who looks even better this year than he did during the team's run to Super Bowl XLV. The Cal product has opened the season by completing 74-of-103 passes for 917 yards, with eight touchdowns and one interception. His 120.9 quarterback rating is the best in the NFL.

Green Bay's offense has been as efficient and balanced as any in the NFL. The Packers are currently eighth in the NFL in total yards per game (403.3), but are ninth in passing yards (294.3) and 10th in rushing yards (109) per game. That kind of distribution makes Green Bay's attack so difficult to defend.

While the Packers have had trouble defending the pass, they do boast the league's top run defense (55 yards per game allowed). Still, they are surrendering 359.3 yards per game through the air (31st in the NFL), which is a major concern heading forward.

Still, to this point, the Packers have not been burned by their defense, which has stepped up and stopped opponents in the clutch.

Though the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions are both also undefeated after three weeks, neither team is even close to as complete as the Packers. Right now, Green Bay looks like the best team in the NFL by far.
