WWE Hell in a Cell: Will John Cena Leave with the WWE Title?

Tom ClarkJun 3, 2018

You knew it was going to happen, right?

When WWE Night of Champions went down two weeks ago, there was a lot of speculation as to whether or not Alberto Del Rio would retain the WWE Championship against the company’s Mr. Everything, John Cena.

Speculation is fun.  It’s worthless in this instance, but it’s fun nonetheless.

While nothing is 100 percent certain in WWE, John Cena losing cleanly, especially against someone like Del Rio, who has been a star all of 10 minutes, is downright impossible.

Seriously.  Forget it.  It’s not happening.

I know what you’re thinking.  “Hey Tom, I’m picking up your sarcasm.”

Well, I should hope so, because I’m laying it on pretty thick.

Be honest here, what else is left to say about John?  What grand points about the man that some fans love, and some fans love to hate, have not yet been made?  What questions regarding Captain America have yet to be asked?

Well, believe it or not, there are a few.

The question posed before us now, much like the one before Night of Champions, is simple.  Will John walk away from Hell in a Cell with the WWE title?

For those of you who just snickered, “Well duh!” at my query, let me say that while I do tend to agree with your sentiment, that this time John is in real danger of walking away with nothing.

Well, nothing except his fat bank accounts, the top job in the biggest pro wrestling company on the planet, a walk in closet sick with colorful t-shirts and a crazy collection of vintage cars.

But, that’s it.

Continuously blatant sarcasm aside, there is more of a chance of the WWE Championship changing hands this time, if only because the match is triple threat.

The former champ, Del Rio, along with the hottest talent in the business today, CM Punk, are the other two men in this bout, and each guy has a pretty good chance of winning the strap.

Del Rio, whose title run was about a million miles short of legendary, is a guy that WWE has spent a lot of time building up as a top heel.  His ego and belief in his destiny to main event, has gotten him over, and many fans consider him to be a great talent who deserves better than what he got since he first cashed in his title shot at SummerSlam.

Perhaps that initial title stint was just a warm up, a trial run to see how he would look in the spotlight. Hell in a Cell could be the actual christening of Alberto Del Rio as a legitimate WWE champion.

Punk is, well, he’s Punk.  The guy can do no wrong, and it really does not matter if he wins or loses, he continues to have the attention of every WWE fan who tunes in each week to see what will happen in his ongoing drama with the conspiracy.

He may leave Hell in a Cell as WWE champion, or he may not.  At this point, it’s of little consequence.

Speaking of the conspiracy, could that little storyline see any action on Sunday?

Is it possible that this pay-per-view would be the one to answer all the questions?  Questions, as to who is really behind all of the cloak and dagger that’s been happening on RAW?

It is my belief that once CM Punk declared that there indeed was a conspiracy happening behind the scenes, that it legitimized the idea, and that something would eventually happen to confirm it.

If that confirmation happens at Hell in a Cell, then the WWE title is definitely up for grabs, as no one seems to know who the culprit could be, and who he or she may be working with.

In other words, anything can happen with the WWE Championship, it’s a toss up.

OK, did anyone really buy that?

Congratulations, John, the masses have spoken.  Tell them to put the screwdriver away, your name plate is not coming off the WWE title anytime soon.

And here you thought I was going to shelve the sarcasm.  Shame on you.
