Week 4 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Kendall Hunter, One of 3 Must-Sign Players

Michael DixonSep 28, 2011

At this point, waiver wire pickups are getting harder to find. Most of the good early sleepers have already been taken.

Indeed, at this point, the best you can hope for is short-term effectiveness. Still, that's not a bad way to go, especially in deeper leagues.

These guys may not be the best long-term solutions, but they are good bets for a temporary run. Don't be afraid to put these guys on your rosters.

In deeper leagues, don't be afraid to put these guys in your starting lineups.

Kendall Hunter

While we shouldn't pay too much attention to the preseason, Hunter was very strong. He's a big-play threat and the 49ers don't have the ability to keep potential playmakers on the bench.

Frank Gore is banged up, so Hunter's carries will probably be up in Week 4.

Hunter found the end zone for the first time in his career against Cincinnati. Another opportunity awaits the rookie here.

The 49ers also run a lot of pass plays. Hunter is the kind of back that can exploit that in a big way.

Especially with injuries (Jamaal Charles) and lack of production (Chris Johnson) to top running backs, I can virtually guarantee that you aren't deep at running back.

If you sign Hunter, you'll at least have a temporary bandage.

McNabb may burn me here. However, going against the Kansas City secondary, I really like his chances to have a nice day.

Admittedly, McNabb's value isn't too great in normal leagues. However, in leagues with an OP slot that includes quarterbacks, or in leagues that require two starters, McNabb is a nice second option.

I don't think he has a long-term future in Minnesota, but the Chiefs have been woeful this year.

While McNabb's best days are behind him, a few good games are in his future.

Denarius Moore

This is not a quick trend. Moore is one of Oakland's best receivers. He catches a lot of passes and he's had a 20-yard run or longer in each of his two NFL games.

He's available in most ESPN leagues. Don't waste time getting him if he's available in yours. I know that receiver is a deep position and you may not need the help there. However, if you sign him, you will at least be keeping Moore off your opponent's roster.

Lastly, Moore plays in a warm weather city in a division that doesn't defend the pass all that well. If nothing else, he'll have a lot of trade value later in the year.

Considering he's still available in a lot of leagues, the secret of how good Moore has been doesn't seem to have yet been revealed.
