Saints vs. Jaguars: TV Schedule, Live Streaming, Radio, Game Time and More

Zachary D. RymerSep 27, 2011

Three weeks into the NFL season, it's hard to think of two teams that could be more different than the New Orleans Saints and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Led by Sean Payton's brains and Drew Brees' arm, the Saints are once again looking like one of the best teams in the league. They've had their struggles on the defensive side of the ball, but there's no arguing that their offense is elite. It could very well carry them back to the Super Bowl.

As for the Jaguars, they're in full-on rebuilding mode this year. They've made the switch to rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert, and the rest of the season will be dedicated to his development.

These two teams will come face to face on Sunday. Let's take a closer look at what we can expect to see.

Where: EverBank Field

When: Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET

Watch: FOX, DirecTV 711 and streaming online via DirecTV's NFL Sunday Ticket To-Go package.

Listen: Live audio streaming on NFL.com (minimum $9.99 payment); WWL 870AM, 105.3FM and WWL.COM and Sirius 136 for New Orleans, ESPN Radio 1420 and Sirius 92 for Jacksonville.

Betting Line: New Orleans -7.5, according to Bodog.

What's at Stake?

The Saints' 2-1 record is good enough to tie them for first in the NFC South. If they win, they could have first place in the division all to themselves.

The Jaguars, meanwhile, are merely trying to get to .500. They're 1-2 now and will likely be treading water all season. All they can do is take it one game at a time.

Saints Injury Report

Center Olin Kreutz and linebacker Zach Strief both exited Sunday's game against the Houston Texans with leg injuries, and the word from the USA Today is that their statuses for Week 4 are currently unknown.

Jaguars Injury Report

On the Jaguars' side of things, the USA Today notes that they have several injuries to monitor this week.

Running back Montell Owens is likely out a game or two with a strained MCL, wide receiver Kassim Osgood will be monitored after missing Week 3's game against the Carolina Panthers with a hamstring injury, defensive end Aaron Kampman could return this week after missing the first three weeks recovering from a torn ACL and defensive end Matt Roth will be reevaluated this week after missing Sunday's game with a neck injury.

Fantasy Start 'Em: Darren Sproles

Sproles is not going to rack up many yards on the ground for the Saints, but he is a huge weapon in the passing game. He's caught at least six passes in every game, and he has a total of 168 yards receiving. Those are good numbers for a wide receiver, let alone a running back.

Fantasy Sit 'Em: Marcedes Lewis

Lewis returned from a calf injury against the Panthers on Sunday, but ended up notching just two catches for 15 yards. With a rookie quarterback under center, there's just no way of knowing if and when Lewis will get going again. I recommend benching him until he does.

Fantasy Sleeper: New Orleans' Defense

The Saints have not played good defense so far this year, as they've allowed a total of 88 points while forcing just two turnovers. Against a weak Jaguars offense, though, the Saints D should have a much better day, so pick them up if you need a defense.

What They're Saying

There's a cool story out from Jeff Duncan of The Times-Picayune about former Saints player Steve Gleason. He retired in 2008 after eight seasons with the team and has since been diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease. During a private party on Monday night, the Saints presented Gleason with a Super Bowl XLIV ring.

Naturally, Gleason had nothing but kind things to say:

"

At the beginning of the game, I never knew if we were going to win or lose, but I was always for certain that I was going to walk out of there with my head held high because I got ready, I had the right people around me, and I was going to give it everything I had. It's the same now. We're going to give it everything we've got. I have a calming sense of certainty that we're going to win this thing.

"

Pretty moving words, and a classy gesture by a classy team.

Meanwhile, in Jacksonville, it's all about Blaine Gabbert. He was just OK in his first NFL start, but Sam Gardner of FOX Sports Florida urges you to think twice before judging Gabbert based on his play on Sunday. The game, after all, was played amidst rather inclement conditions:

"

In such soggy circumstances, "good" is defined by how adept you are at not messing up—and by that measure, Gabbert played well enough, making good reads and finding open receivers the few times they worked themselves free. He also looked confident in the backfield and seemed to have the respect of his teammates in the huddle.

"

All of this is true. And besides, it's not like Gabbert was any worse than Luke McCown.

Saints Player to Watch: Drew Brees

I don't know about you, but I never get tired of watching Drew Brees. He's one of the smartest quarterbacks in the history of the league, and he's off to a blazing start this year. Through three games, Brees has thrown for 1,059 yards and nine touchdowns. Both figures lead the NFC.

Jaguars Player to Watch: Maurice Jones-Drew

A lot of eyes are going to be on Gabbert, but don't overlook Maurice Jones-Drew. He's been one of the most dependable running backs in the league for a few years now, and he hasn't slowed down at all so far this season. He's only found the end zone once, but MJD has 307 yards on 66 carries. Those are numbers that most running backs in the league would love to have.

Key Matchup

Because he's the most dangerous player in Jacksonville's offense, you can probably expect the Saints to stack the box in an effort to limit Jones-Drew. It will be up to Gabbert to keep them honest, and we just don't know if he can do that yet. If Gabbert can produce, however, the Saints will be on upset alert.

On the Hot Seat

It has to be Jags head coach Jack Del Rio. There are many who think he should have been fired before this year, and the demand for Del Rio's head is even more intense this year. The Jags just haven't developed into a consistent contender under his watch, and he hasn't exactly managed his team well since the lifting of the lockout. A win over a team like the Saints should help alleviate the pressure.

Prediction

I have the Saints pegged as the best team in the NFC. Contrarily, I have the Jags pegged as one of the worst teams in the NFL. This one should be a no-doubter.
