NFL Predictions: 4 NFL Records That Could Fall in 2011
With some eye-popping performances in the books so far in the 2011 NFL season, there's reason to believe that some once proud record holders could lose their titles by the year's end.
Players like Tom Brady have come out of the gates looking on the top of their game, with the New England quarterback already making history earlier this season on Monday Night Football against the Miami Dolphins.
Here are four records that could see new faces on the top of their list for most all-time by the end of this NFL season
Most Punts in a Season
1 of 4Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee currently sits with 17 punts on the 2011 season, and could be well on his way to breaking Bob Parsons' 1981 record of 171 in a single season.
The Colts started the season with Kerry Collins at quarterback and the former retiree has looked outright dreadful, and is now concussed.
Curtis Painter finds himself as the only able bodied quarterback on the Indy roster at the moment, which can only mean more punts for McAfee in the near future.
Most Sacks in a Season
2 of 4Three games into the season and Dallas Cowboys' linebacker DeMarcus Ware already has five sacks to his name, putting him at a good start to breaking Michael Strahan's 22.5 single season sack record.
Ware finished his 2010 campaign with 15. 5, which was best in the league among defensive players and looks to be continuing his dominance into the new season.
22.5 is seven more than the Cowboy's output from a season ago, but Ware is still in the prime of his career and has yet to reach his ceiling of potential, which could bring him Strahan's prestigious record in the near future.
Most Sacks Allowed in a Single Season
3 of 4One of, if not the main reason behind the Pittsburgh Steelers causing panic in their hometown with their unimpressive start to the season falls on the shoulders of their offensive line. Right now they look as bad as the 2002 Houston Texans' line that gave up a record 76 sacks in one season.
Ben Roethlisberger and his offensive weapons have yet to shine the way many analysts believed they would heading into the new year, perhaps because Big Ben has been sacked nine times and knocked down on 14 occasions through three games.
Analysts such as ESPN"s Matthew Berry have openly wondered if the Steelers' quarterback can make it through a whole season healthy with the way his line is playing.
Dan Marino's Single Season Passing Record
4 of 4Dan Marino's single season passing yards record is one Tom Brady has flirted with on a number of occasions in the past.
In 2005, Brady posted over 4,100 yards through the air and four years later he finishes two yards shy of 4,400. Marino's record still stands at 5,084 but the Patriots' quarterback already has a fifth of that to his name and we're only three games into the season.
If somehow Brady continues at his current pace of 440 yards per game, he'd shatter the Hall of Famer's record by 2,000 yards, finishing with over 7,000.
Many have believe that Marino's record would stand the test of time, but it looks like New England's No.12 is locking in on adding yet another prestigious accolade to his resume.
