Steve Slaton: 3 Teams Where New Free Agent Could Make Massive Impact

Richard LangfordSep 27, 2011

Steve Slaton is set to be looking for new employment. Jason LaCanfora broke the news on his Twitter account.

Slaton is still a quick back that can catch whose unique skill set could help teams in the NFL. Here are three teams he could help the most.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs offense took a huge blow when they lost Jamaal Charles. They have used Dexter McCluster to fill part of his role.

McCluster has been effective, but he is not a true running back, and the Chiefs don't want to shoulder him with too many carries. McCluster has just 21 carries through three games.

Slaton would keep the Chiefs free to use McCluster sparingly on carries, and limit the amount of touches they have to give to the aging Thomas Jones.

Denver Broncos

The Broncos offense is struggling. Their rushing attack has been nearly nonexistent as they are averaging under four yards per carry. Lead back Willis McGahee still has talent, but his backup Knowshon Moreno is looking even more like a bust.

Orton likes to dump the ball off to his backs, and McGahee is not very good in this capacity.

If the Broncos acquired Slaton, they could close the book on Moreno, while making their backfield more complete in the process.

San Francisco 49ers

Frank Gore is growing increasingly injury prone. The 49ers are in need of instant running back depth. Slaton could help lighten the load on Kendall Hunter while Gore returns to health.

When Gore returns, Slaton could add the dimension of a receiving back to the 49ers struggling offense. This team wants to be a power running team, and it is simply not working.

Slaton would help spread out defense to open interior running lanes.
