Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Week 4: Why You Must Add Fred Davis

Ryan PhillipsJun 7, 2018

Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis had a weak performance Monday night against the Dallas Cowboys. The 25-year-old caught just one pass for 23 yards, while another throw sailed far out of reach and a third in his direction was intercepted.

Despite a slow game in the Redskins' 18-16 loss, Davis is still the top fantasy tight end on Washington's roster. Through the first two weeks, Davis was a beast, catching 11 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown. He was starting to look like a top five tight end option league-wide.

While he does share snaps with long-time Washington tight end Chris Cooley, Davis has emerged as the better player. The Redskins clearly agree with that statement, as the fourth-year vet's playing time has been steadily increasing. Looking at their Week 2 playing time—where Davis was in for 56 snaps, compared to just 37 for Cooley—it become obvious that the younger, more athletic player is taking over the No. 1 tight end spot.

The USC product was also on the field alone for 42 of those snaps, which means head coach Mike Shanahan trusts him to be out there in passing and running situations.

While you may not believe Redskins quarterback Rex Grossman can get him the ball enough, you should be able to rely on Davis to make plays once it is in his hands. He's a tough cover for linebackers, and he is strong enough to ward off safeties who come up to mark him.

The shocking thing is that Davis is owned in just 60 percent of ESPN fantasy leagues, which means he could still be available. If he is, jump on it and don't think twice. He will certainly produce in Week 4 against the St. Louis Rams and he could end up having a big year.
