Vitor Belfort Hopes to Fight at UFC 141, Eyes Sonnen vs. Stann Winner

Mike HodgesJun 7, 2018

Vitor Belfort's recent injury was only a minor one, and he hopes to return to action before the end of the year.

Belfort was a guest on MMAJunkie.com Radio earlier this week, and he discussed the extent of his injury and his intentions of returning to the Octagon. He said he wants to return at UFC 141 in December, and hopes he can get into title contention.

As for a particular challenger, the Brazilian already has his sights on the winner of Chael Sonnen and Brian Stann, who will meet each other at UFC 136. And it's no secret who Belfort will be rooting for.

"One opponent I really want, I hope Chael wins," Belfort said.

"His fighting always (goes) to a decision. He's a boring fighter, but I'll make sure that fight will end up quick, and I'll give him a fight he's never had in his life."

Belfort has been aware of Sonnen's remarks towards Brazil and Brazilian fighters, and he has taken offense to the Team Quest member's comments.

Meanwhile, Belfort is recovering and said he is undergoing physical therapy three times a week for a month, and described the process as hard and intense as a training camp. "The Phenom" was originally scheduled to face Strikeforce acquisition Cung Le at UFC 139 before he suffered an injury, which allowed Wanderlei Silva to step in as his replacement.

Belfort is focused on recovering and getting prepared to return as soon as possible. As he reaches his mid-30s, he wants to continue fighting consistently for as long as he can.

"I just don't want to step in the octagon not (being) 100 percent," he said.

"I'm 34 years old. I have four or five years more in my career. So the decisions I make, I made with doctors and people in my camp that I trust and the people that care about me."
