ESPN NFL Power Rankings: 5 Teams ESPN Experts Got Wrong
The World Wide Leader in Sports, also known as ESPN, has released their Week 4 power rankings, and just like every week, they missed big on a few teams.
Some teams were given too much love and others not enough praise. They pay attention to the teams' records a little too much, when they should be looking at the team as a whole.
This is ranking the NFL from best to worst, and clearly, some teams don't deserve their ranking. You can view their list here, but click on to see where they messed up first.
Here are five teams the experts at ESPN got wrong.
St. Louis Rams
1 of 5The Rams are ranked at No. 31, which is just absurd. The only reason they're 0-3 right now is because of a very hard schedule that forced them to play against three top 15 teams.
I whole-heartedly believe that if Steven Jackson doesn't get injured on the opening play of Week 1, then the Rams would have beaten the Philadelphia Eagles.
Things haven't worked out so well for the Rams to start the season, but they're not the second worst team in the NFL. There are five 0-3 teams in the league, and the Rams are at least the first or second best of those five.
Plus, they're better than the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers, who are the bottom two teams in the league in terms of total offense.
Seattle Seahawks
2 of 5The experts put the Seahawks at No. 24, which gave me a good laugh because this team is not one of the 25 best in the NFL today.
They rank second to last in total offense, and they've only scored 30 points on the year. Even the lowly Indianapolis Colts have scored more than them!
Yes, they did just get their first win and perhaps that's why they got a bump in the rankings. However, five or six teams below them could easily beat them.
Tavaris Jackson is not a winner, and their run game is so bad that Miami Dolphins QB Chad Henne is just a few rushing yards behind the Seahawks' starter, Marshawyn Lynch.
Tennessee Titans
3 of 5The Titans come in at No. 15, which was a huge shock because they are far from a top 15 team, especially since Kenny Britt is now lost for the rest of the season.
The impressive win at home over the Baltimore Ravens helps their rankings, but a Week 1 loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars and barely beating the Denver Broncos in Week 3 shows you who this team really is.
Chris Johnson got his huge contract, and now it appears he doesn't care to run the ball hard anymore. Johnson is averaging 2.1 yards per carry, which is just pathetic.
The defense has been the bright spot this season, but it's not enough to put them ahead of teams like the Eagles, Bears, Falcons and even the Redskins.
Buffalo Bills
4 of 5It's great what the Bills have accomplished going 3-0 and being the only unbeaten team in the AFC, but they still don't deserve a top 10 ranking, much less the No. 6 spot, which is where the experts put them at.
It's a huge surprise to everyone that this team has rallied strong and pulled off some excellent comeback wins; however, the defense is strong enough to make them a top 10 team.
Once the Bills win a tough road challenge, then people can give them this much praise. The win over the Patriots pushed them in the top 10, but I think most of us reasonable people can agree that the Bills had a lot of luck fall their way in the game.
The power rankings is all about skill, and some teams behind them—including the Jets, Chargers and Steelers—would have no trouble beating them, and that is why they don't belong at No. 6.
Detroit Lions
5 of 5I really like the Detroit Lions, and I'm glad they're 3-0 for the first time since 1980, but that doesn't mean they're the No. 4 team in the NFL right now.
Sure, they have fantastic weapons with Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson, Jahvid best and Brandon Pettigrew, but if they were to play a team with a solid defense, then this young team would struggle to have a great comeback.
The fact that they were down 20-0 at one point to the Vikings proves they're not worthy of being a top five team in the NFL. Yes, the comeback win was superb, but elite teams don't dig themselves into that deep of a hole.
The Lions are going to make a lot of noise this year, and they could surprise people and make the playoffs as a wild-card team. But right now, this team is not better than the Ravens, Jets or Steelers.
