Jason Taylor Proves Loyalty Means Nothing in Henne vs. Sanchez Debate

Wes ODonnellJun 6, 2018

Jason Taylor was once asked to choose between quarterbacks Chad Henne and Mark Sanchez. His response:

"

I know who I’m going to pick, and it’s my quarterback here. I’ve always been one of those guys that rides or dies with his quarterback. Sanchez is my guy, and I better not hear anybody say anything bad about him.

"

Well, just about a year later, it is Taylor himself saying something bad about his former quarterback.

Taylor was a member of the New York Jets the year he defended Sanchez in the debate. This year, as a member of the Dolphins for the third time in his career, Taylor has changed his tune.

When asked to pick between the two, Henne or Sanchez, the 15-year-pro responded:

"

I think Chad has grown immensely since I left here a year ago. I saw a kid in New York, Mark Sanchez, that is young. I don’t think he’s as talented as Chad Henne.

"

Wow, that is quite a quick jump from one to the other.

But after playing 12 years in Miami (the 11th and 12th were separated by a year in Washington), it should come as no shock that loyalty is not something that means too much to Taylor.

The long-time Dolphin joined the New York Jets in hopes of winning a Super Bowl. After only one year, he was not retained and retreated back to the one organization that will always have him. Even after committing base treachery in hopes of earning a ring, the Dolphins still took back the defensive end from his year-long stint with the Jets.

Wherever Taylor is wanted appears to be where he goes. The Jets didn't need him this year, and now he's riding (actually dying, as the Dolphins are still winless) with Chad Henne. If Taylor sticks around for one more year in Miami, he'll have to put his allegiance behind whichever new quarterback the Dolphins decide to go with, because it would surprising if Henne lasts the year.

That is to say, if the Dolphins' new coach (coach Tony Sparano is going to be fired) wants him at all.

Despite his contributions to the Dolphins, he himself has proved that loyalty only goes so far.
