Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Week 4: Why Fantasy Owners Should Avoid Victor Cruz
Victor Cruz—who most people had never heard of before Sunday afternoon—exploded in Week 3 for the New York Giants. The 24-year-old receiver out of UMass caught three passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns, putting himself on the NFL map and raising his fantasy profile.
While it's easy to get excited about Cruz's big week, you shouldn't think he'll be a big-time fantasy contributor for you. He's nothing more than a third receiver for the Giants, even after torching the vaunted Philadelphia Eagles secondary.
With Domenik Hixon lost for the season and Mario Manningham still recovering from a concussion, Cruz will definitely see a lot of playing time in the near future. For the next week or so he could even be elevated to the No. 2 receiver spot for the Giants. But with the team's next three opponents—Arizona Cardinals, Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills—having weak secondaries, quarterback Eli Manning is much more likely to look for top target Hakeem Nicks than Cruz.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Cruz is worth a pickup in deep leagues, just don't put a whole lot of trust in him. Though he went for a ton of yardage and two scores on Sunday, he only made three catches and was targeted just five times by Manning. Entering Sunday's game Cruz also only had two career catches for 17 yards.
His performance against the Eagles was fantastic and a lot of fun to watch, but expecting that kind of return consistently from the young receiver would be a huge mistake. Until Manningham is cleared to play, Cruz might be worth a roster spot if you're really thin at receiver. But he shouldn't start and isn't likely to repeat his miraculous weekend any time soon.
