WWE: Why Shawn Michaels Should Supplant Triple H as COO

Adam WellsSep 27, 2011

With Hell In A Cell rapidly approaching, the fate of Triple H as Chief Operating Officer of WWE has never been more in doubt. Just two months after taking over for Vince McMahon, the end is near for The Game. But the only question left is who should take over for him when he is ousted from his seat of power?

There may be a surprise player in the Chief Operating Officer sweepstakes when all is said and done. The surprise is none other than Triple H’s other best friend, Shawn Michaels.

Conventional wisdom would tell you that Vince McMahon or John Laurinaitis would be the one to take over control of Raw and SmackDown.

They have already teased McMahon’s return by having Alberto Del Rio mention his name on television last week in a confrontation with Triple H. And it is no secret that McMahon loves being on television, despite saying on numerous occasions over the last five years that he is done as a television character.

But this is WWE and there is nothing conventional, or logical, about the way that this company operates.

And there is a video floating around the Internet that was first sent out to fans on the WWE mailing list promoting Triple H’s epic new film Inside Out, with Shawn Michaels interrupting a Triple H interview and asking him about the situation with Kevin Nash.

Michaels ends the promo by saying, “I miss you, and, who knows, you might be seeing me soon.”

This could just be a red herring to throw us off the scent, but it would make sense to bring Michaels in, at least for one week, to defend Nash and put an end to Triple H’s power trip.

I still believe that Laurinaitis is going to be given the Chief Operating Officer position—for at least a short period of time—based on the angle that happened on Raw last night with a group of heels preparing to sue Triple H.

Laurinaitis will be given the keys to the WWE car and will fail miserably. The board of directors will vote him out and, because no one else is capable of doing the job, McMahon will be put back in charge.

But Michaels would make a more entertaining Chief Operating Officer, and, unlike Laurinaitis or McMahon, he can actually get physical with the wrestlers on the roster when they get in his face.

No matter what direction WWE ultimately goes with the Chief Operating Officer angle, the wheels are in motion to oust Triple H from that position.
