NFL Picks Week 4: Proven Teams That Are Locks to Cover Spread

Alex KaySep 27, 2011

There have been four teams that stick out to me as cover machines so far this season and it would be tough not to play them in Week 4 the way the trends have been going.

Three weeks is a solid sample size for these squads and unless they start getting some really ridiculous spreads that aren’t in their favor, they should be safe plays for a bit longer.

Let’s take a look at these teams and the spreads for their matchups this week.

San Francisco at Philadelphia Eagles (No Line Set)

This game does not have a line yet because the status of Michael Vick is once again in doubt.

Last week the oddsmakers did not set one until he passed his concussion tests and eventually made it Philly -8 against the Giants.

I like San Francisco getting points against Vick and the Eagles, as the team has had two wins and a tie against the spread this season.

Detroit Lions +1.5 at Dallas Cowboys

Detroit is another team with two wins and a tie against the spread this season. They showed remarkable resilience against the Vikings last week and ended up coming back to tie the spread from a huge deficit.

They will be playing an overrated Cowboys team that barely won despite their terribly inefficient receiving corps and a banged up Tony Romo.

I see the Lions winning this straight up and taking the points is definitely the play this week.

New Orleans Saints -7 at Jacksonville Jaguars

The Saints didn’t cover their first game against the Packers, but have been rolling since. They won big against the Bears and by a TD over the Texans.

Both of these squads are much better than the Jaguars so they should easily come in and cover on the road. The Jets, who aren’t as good as the Saints in my opinion, had no problem taking care of them in a 32-3 blowout.

Green Bay Packers -13 vs. Denver Broncos

This line scares me a bit as the Packers did not cover a 10.5-point spread against the Panthers, but I feel they play better at home and beat up on the Broncs.

They covered a five-point spread against the Saints and a four-point spread against the Bears and they seem to be rolling at this point in the season.

Denver on the other hand has only covered against the Titans but still lost the game. I see the Packers winning this one by exactly 14 points.
