WWE News: Chris Jericho Discusses Stolen Moves and More

Al ConstableJun 7, 2018

Chris Jericho has recently been interviewed by Duane Doogan for his Wrestling Voice Radio show. During the session, several topics were brought up, such as Jericho's band Fozzy and several developments in wrestling today.

Possibly the most interesting to Jericho fans were his opinions on wrestlers copying his maneuvers and ideas. For those of you who do not follow Y2J on Twitter, he constantly gets updates from his fans whenever they see a wrestler use one of his well-known moves.

The former WWE Champion said this on the matter:

“There seems to be a lack of respect for the forefathers who came in and did it first, and it’s not just [CM] Punk, it’s a whole litany of guys from Miz to Cody Rhodes to Mason Ryan to Sin Cara to Kelly Kelly, everybody is stealing moves, looks, ideas.

"Brian Pillman once told me if you want to make it in wrestling you have to do something that nobody has done before, and nobody is doing that, and they are coming off as second-rate copies of Chris Jericho, and that’s maybe why these guys aren’t striking and I watch it and think, ‘Seriously, again?’

“A couple of years ago you had ‘Miz 4, John Cena 0′, where did that come from? Conspiracy Theory, where did that come from? Best in the World, where did that come from?

"Wearing suits, talking slow, using big words, using certain moves, you know Miz used the word “troglodyte” a few weeks ago and I’m like seriously? If there ever was a word associated with Chris Jericho that would be it.

"These guys have to start thinking of their own stuff and, sometimes, I see some of them and I’m like oh come on. It’s not like it’s influenced. At least give credit where credit is due.”

"

In some respects, I can agree with Jericho on the matter of stealing moves. When you have been gone from the company for barely a year, then all these guys dip into your moveset, the commentators could at least mention the innovator.

A good example could be the AA Spinebuster, which regularly gets Arn Anderson's name mentioned.

But, then again, I can also say that whilst Brian Pillman was correct about doing something nobody has done before, it's getting a lot harder than it once was to be "new."

The Internet has made the world a smaller place. Many of Jericho's so-called innovations were modifications or just plain copies of stuff that hadn't been performed outside of a certain territory.

As for gimmick and storyline ideas, sure Jericho made good use of them before, but how well do you think Miz's push had gone if someone in WWE just said "Hey, that's like when Chris Jericho had a rivalry with Goldberg."?

I personally think Chris Jericho is blowing this out of proportion considering the industry he is in.

Then again, maybe this is all a work and Jericho is making a big deal about it to create a new gimmick.

Head on over to the link to listen to what else Jericho has to say as he covers a wider variety of topics, including his on-going real-life feud with Vampiro.
