Week 4 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: James Starks and 2 RBs To Snag This Week

Joseph HealySep 27, 2011

Fantasy owners are really hurting at the running back position right now. Injuries to the likes of Jamaal Charles, Steven Jackson and Arian Foster have owners scrambling to find replacements.

There are no players that can truly replace the production of stars like that, but there are those that can come close. The following are three players that you can count on to get you points in place of your injured stars when you are in a pinch.

James Starks - Green Bay Packers

Starks played well in the first two games of the season while Ryan Grant was struggling, and now that Grant is dealing with a bruised kidney, Starks will have another shot at the starting job.

So far this season, Starks has rushed 32 times for 147 yards. That's an average of 4.6 yards per rush. Given the fact that the Packers aren't asking their running game to do too much, they will take that production gladly.

At 6'2" and 218 pounds, Starks promises to be a great back in the red zone. Even if Grant returns healthy and better than ever, Starks will have a place on the team as a goal-line back. If he is on the field often enough, he might be a good fantasy option for the rest of the season.

DeMarco Murray - Dallas Cowboys

The official word is that Felix Jones is recovering well form his shoulder injury and that he will be fine. I'm just not so sure. A separated shoulder is aggravated when a player lands directly on the shoulder, and that can happen any number of times over the course of a game.

When and if Jones is limited by the injury in the future, Murray will be the running back to own. The coaches continue to say that Murray is making great progress in practice and I have to believe that he will be given a shot to prove his worth sooner rather than later.

Murray is too good a talent to keep on the sidelines for very much longer. He was among the most dynamic runners in the nation at Oklahoma and there's no reason to believe that he won't have success in the NFL.

Jerious Norwood - St. Louis Rams

At the start of the season, the Rams looked really deep at running back. Just three weeks into the season, the position is looking awfully thin. Steven Jackson was activated for their game against Baltimore this past Sunday, but it's clear he is still battling the injury.

To top things off, backup Cadillac Williams has also been hobbled by one of those dreaded hamstring injuries. That's where Jerious Norwood comes in. The former Atlanta Falcon stands to get carries when and if those two are unavailable.

With Jackson active for now, there's no reason to have Norwood in your lineup right now. But if you own Steven Jackson, it's imperative that you have someone to back him up. You could do a lot worse than Norwood.
