Tony Romo Injury: Why We've Been Far Too Hard on Cowboys' Star QB

Gabe ZaldivarSep 26, 2011

Sports offers fans an ever-changing tale that is never truly finished being written. The same is true for the athletes and their respective games, including Cowboys star QB Tony Romo

The career of every single NFL quarterback is continually being amended and shuffled around. We were certain that Brett Favre would live out his playing days as the rugged Packers legend that we knew him as for most of his career.

We now have a very different feeling about the gunslinger as he has finally said goodbye to the NFL. Every season—and every game—will serve to tell the entire story.

For Tony Romo, we have known him as a choke artist, a pretender. Romo has been the underachieving quarterback for America's team.

However, in just one week Romo has proposed that there is a much different side to his personae. We can now debate whether Romo is a choke artist, grizzled QB that laughs in the face of injury, both or neither.

By now, we have all heard that in last week's game Tony Romo suffered a blow that resulted in a punctured lung and broken rib.

Romo sat pained as the Cowboys looked dangerously close to slipping to 0-2 with a loss to the 49ers. Romo wrote another chapter in his career as he forced the hand of head coach Jason Garrett to put him back in the game.

Hobbled, Romo led the Cowboys to a win that they desperately needed in the early 2011 season. Despite his injuries, he will lead again in Week 3 against the Washington Redskins

The Cowboys QB is turning the corner as Cowboys leader as he prepares to play in immense pain against an underrated pass rush.

Romo has made not tried to hide the fact that this last week has been a painful one. Yet, there is nothing he would rather do than to step on the field and be the key cog in a victory.

For at least a couple of weeks in 2011, Tony Romo has been viewed as the type of warrior that every NFL fan adores. However, whether he maintains that type of characterization with fans remains to be seen.

As we know, a career is never fully defined until retirement, but Romo has shown he can be what the Cowboys need him to be: a fearless leader.
