Hope Solo: Dancing with the Stars Has an Early-Season Favorite

Gabe ZaldivarSep 26, 2011

America has fallen head over heels for the 30-year old goalkeeper from Richland, Wash. If you are looking for a favorite to win Season 13 of Dancing with the Stars, look no further than Hope Solo

Solo was adamant before the season that she had two left feet, making her an underdog to compete for the title on DWTS.

After Week 1, we beg to differ.

Solo has approached the show with the same zeal and spark that she does with anything she competes in. The world-class keeper has been the most sought after athlete from a marketing standpoint since her sting in this summer's World Cup.

It seems that you can't flip on the television these days without seeing Solo. Such ubiquity for a woman such as Solo should be savored.

Monday gives us a chance to see a more rhythmic side of Solo. She goes from the waltz in Week 1 to the jive in Week 2.

For Solo, she needs to merely maintain a modicum of growth as a dancer to seal the title this season. DWTS is as much a popularity contest as it is a dancing competition. The voters have a say in who goes on and who goes home.

Solo not only has the athleticism on lock down, she also commands the attention of a sports hungry nation.

Just this week, ESPN released a new promo spot featuring Solo and her World Cup teammate, Alex Morgan.

You can always tell which athletes are making their imprint on popular culture by who shows up on these promos.

Solo is the "it" woman of the moment. This should come as sad news for the rest of the cast on DWTS.

It is one thing to be a talented athlete that can learn how to move on the dance floor. It is another to be beloved by the nation. Hope Solo is both.
