Tony Romo Injury: Broken Rib Won't Slow Him Down in Redskins vs. Cowboys Battle

Donald WoodSep 26, 2011

Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys have a big challenge against their tough NFC East division rivals, the Washington Redskins, but Romo will be far from 100 percent.

After suffering a broken rib and a punctured lung against the San Francisco 49ers last week, the Washington Redskins had no problem admitting that they would target Romo’s ailments.

Not only did the normally loud DeAngelo Hall say he wanted to hurt Romo, Washington head coach Mike Shanahan got into the mix.

Shanahan told the Detroit Free Press about his willingness to attack the injured Romo:

"

"We're going to blitz him every down if he's playing, the first 15 plays. No, obviously everybody's got a game plan for everything, but usually, if a guy can play, he's got a legitimate chance to do what he's capable of doing or else they couldn't have him in there."

"

While Washington will bring everything but the kitchen sink to punish the Dallas quarterback, the Cowboys will have the recipe to beat the undefeated Redskins.

While the Redskins are bum-rushing Romo, the Cowboys will turn to their run game and quick passes to catch Washington out of position and capitalize on the team’s opportunities.

Cowboys tight end Jason Witten told ESPN about the pressure on the team this week:

"

"There's a sense of urgency there. It's, 'Hey, I'm asking everybody else to do it and I'm going to do it, too.' There is no stone unturned with the way he approaches it and communicates, but most of all, the way he plays with that will."

"

With the Cowboys rallying around their injured quarterback and building off of his strength, this will be a test too tough for the Redskins to pass on Monday night.

If Dallas can protect their quarterback and head coach Jason Garrett can keep the passes short, Romo’s day won’t be any more difficult than it has to be.

The Cowboys will win the game 27-17 and show the NFC they are for real.
