Week 4 Waiver Wire: Who Are the Best Available Injury Replacements?

Zach KruseSep 26, 2011

There were several key injuries during Sunday's games in the NFL, which put fantasy owners on the hook to find viable replacements on the waiver wire heading into Week 4.

Here are the biggest injuries from yesterday and some of the available players who could fill in next week:

Injury: Titans WR Kenny Britt

Replacement: Titans WR Nate Washington

Losing Britt to a potential season-ending knee injury is a big blow to both the Titans and fantasy owners who saw the third-year receiver put up huge numbers to start 2011. If you need to replace him on your roster, however, look no farther than the guy who lines up opposite him every Sunday. Washington has been productive as well this season, as he's caught 21 passes for 258 yards a score. His big plays might go down without Britt, but he's going to see more targets.

Injury: Eagles QB Michael Vick

Replacement: Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck

We won't know for sure, but it's likely that Vick will miss at least a week after breaking his non-throwing hand on Sunday. For a guy that was a first round pick in almost every fantasy draft, that's a tough break. Over in Tennessee, the Titans have a quarterback who has been every bit as productive as Vick through three weeks. Matt Hasselbeck is averaging over 300 yards and has five touchdowns so far in 2011.

Injury: 49ers RB Frank Gore

Replacement: Raiders WR Denarius Moore

Gore suffered an ankle injury on Sunday, and it's unknown at this point whether he'll be ready to go in Week 4. With such a weak pool of running backs available in most fantasy leagues, you might have to go to the receiver position to fill his void in flex leagues. The Raiders' Denarius Moore has 180 yards receiving and another 48 on the ground in the team's last two games, and he's scored twice. Moore has become a fixture in the Raiders offense, and he should see plenty of the ball in coming weeks.

Injury: Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin

Replacement: Ravens WR Torrey Smith

Maclin strained his hamstring on Sunday, but you could replace him next week with a guy that is just as explosive in Torrey Smith. The Ravens' rookie receiver caught three first quarter touchdown passes on Sunday, and two were from 40 yards or longer (74 and 41). You can't expect those numbers to continue, but he should get opportunities for big plays. The Ravens offense has suddenly become vertical with Lee Evans and Smith.

Injury: Chargers TE Antonio Gates

Replacement: Redskins TE Fred Davis

Gates missed Sunday's game with the Chiefs with a lingering foot injury, which is nothing new for owners of the Chargers talented tight end in recent years. If you need a replacement who is outperforming Gates in 2011, look to Fred Davis in Washington. He has a tough matchup tonight in Dallas, but Davis has nearly 200 yards and a score in the Redskins' first two games. He's still available in 59 percent of ESPN leagues.
