2012 NFL Mock Draft: Who Will Be the Top 5 Prospects?

John RozumSep 26, 2011

It's never too early for NFL Draft talk, and the 2012 Draft can't come soon enough for some teams and fans.

That being said, 2011 was a bit more defensive than offensive, but 2012 looks to be a bit more balanced overall. However, the bigger names will be known with the offense.

Therefore, here are the Top 5 prospects for the 2012 NFL Draft.

5. Manti Te'o: LB, Notre Dame

He was a 2009 freshman All-American after recording 63 tackles (third most in school history for a freshman), and started ten of the Irish's 12 games, but appeared in all 12.

As a sophomore in 2010, Te'o recorded 133 tackles in 13 games, thus averaging ten per contest and was a second team All-American.

This season Te'o once again is Notre Dame's best defensive player, and arguably their best player overall.

Be sure watch him every chance you get, because he's in on virtually every tackle when the Irish defense takes the field.

4. Landry Jones: QB, Oklahoma

It appears that head coach Bob Stoops is making the Oklahoma Sooners a QB factory.

Now, although not all have succeeded in the NFL (Josh Heupel and Jason White), Sam Bradford is the beginning of that trend and Landry Jones is going to continue it.

Despite the slow start in 2011, you know Jones will pick it up because he's simply too talented to not fix his mistakes.

Last season he threw for over 4,700 yards with 38 TDs and only 12 picks, and after taking over for an injured Bradford in '09, Jones threw for 3,200 yards with 26 TDs and 14 picks, which isn't bad for not having any prior college experience.

3. Justin Blackmon: WR, Oklahoma State

Whoever drafts this young man is going to get a WR better than Dez Bryant (also of Oklahoma State), Justin Blackmon is that good.

In 2010 he was the nation's best WR in compiling almost 1.800 receiving yards and scored 20 TDs on 111 receptions.

This season he has already accounted for 450 yards on 38 catches, and has scored four TDs through four games.

Blackmon is the best WR in the draft, and last season he was better than Julio Jones and A.J. Green, that's how much talent he possesses.

2. Kellen Moore: QB, Boise State

His record as a starter is 41-2 and he was a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2010.

Boise State's Kellen Moore is arguably the best player in the draft, but nonetheless, is an easy Top 3 prospect.

Since being under center in Boise, Moore has only thrown 21 interceptions to 111 TDs, and he still has at least ten more games left in his collegiate career.

It's going to be scary to see how high his career totals are after four years of dominating college football.

1. Andrew Luck: QB, Stanford

The most impressive football aspect about Andrew Luck is not how intelligent and mature of a player he is, although it's still very good.

No, the most impressive thing is that he still has another year of college football eligibility left, and yet he's still the No. 1 prospect.

To enhance his greatness even more though, he was slated to be the No. 1 prospect in the 2011 NFL Draft (yes ahead of Cam Newton), that's how rare Luck's level of talent is.

He's only thrown one pick in 2011 after three games, and he only threw eight all of last season.

For his career he's tossed 53 TD passes, and has scored another six by running the ball.

It's going to be fun watching him in pro football, but for now, let's appreciate his dominance of college football.
