NFL Power Rankings: Which Teams Are NFL's Most Overrated?

John RozumJun 5, 2018

It's not a good feeling being an overrated team, but nonetheless, they exist in every sport at every level.

Perhaps they're more exposed in the NFL, however, as it is America's most popular sport, which in turn, adds more pressure to those needing to prove the skeptics wrong.

Well after three weeks of play there are clearly some overrated NFL teams, but only two stick out more than the rest.

And each conference has one.

Philadelphia Eagles

The "Super Bowl or bust" franchise for the 2011 NFL season, the Philadelphia Eagles acquired more talent and depth this offseason than any other team.

QB Vince Young, RB Ronnie Brown, WR Steve Smith (from the Giants), OT Ryan Harris, CB Nnamdi Asomugha, CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and DL Jason Babin are the most notables.

Add in the talent they already had with QB Michael Vick, WR DeSean Jackson, RB LeSean McCoy, DL Trent Cole and CB Asante Samuel, and being 1-2 at this point is clearly an underachievement.

First, they started off slow on the road in St. Louis, but since the Rams have such a lack of talent, Philly easily came back and kept the cynics at bay.

Now the Week 2 loss at Atlanta was forgivable, as the Falcons desperately needed a win. It was also in the Georgia Dome so it was an obvious hostile environment to play in.

Week 3, however, was a complete fall from grace as the visiting NFC East rival New York Giants bested them 29-16, and dropped Philly for their second straight loss.

This week the Eagles play host to the 2-1 and very confident San Francisco 49ers, who just won on the road in Cincinnati.

On paper, the Eagles should walk this one, but as based by the current amount of evidence, that's why they play the games.

New York Jets

After coming back to win over Dallas at home, the New York Jets carried that momentum into Week 2 and thumped the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Well, Week 3 proved to be their first real test as the Oakland Raiders are looking like AFC contenders after this one.

Jets QB Mark Sanchez is continuing to get better under center, but now, the problem is the defense.

Oakland RB Darren McFadden rushed for 171 yards on only 19 carries, and scored two TDs.

Collectively, the Raiders ran for 234 yards on 32 attempts, and scored four rushing TDs.

There's no reason to really throw the ball against New York, because even though their secondary is solid, the front seven is now looking weaker than ever.

Not to take anything away from the Raiders ground game, but for as good as the Jets were in rush defense last season, a drop in production like this was definitely not expected.

Therefore, unless Rex Ryan fixes the front seven, offenses are going to run, run, run all over the Jets.
