NHL: The 9 Dumbest Postgame Quotes in Hockey During the Past 25 Years
Just like any other sport, hockey has its share of great, and often dumb, postgame quotes.
As sportswriters we love these quotes—they make for great stories. Many of the players and coaches on this list were trying to be sarcastic with these quotes; others were quite serious.
Either way, it's great entertainment.
Let's look at the 9 dumbest postgame quotes in the NHL during the past 25 years.
Roberto Luongo
1 of 9"It's not hard if you're playing in the paint. It's an easy save for me."
After Game 5 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals, Roberto Luongo blamed Tim Thomas' goalie style for the lone goal of the game scored by Canucks forward Maxim Lapierre.
Roberto Luongo
2 of 9Luongo wasn't done with the unintelligent quotes during the leadup to Game 6 in Boston.
"I’ve been pumping his tires all series, I haven’t heard him say anything nice about me."
Daniel Sedin
3 of 9"We're going to win Game 7."
This quote wouldn't be that bad if Sedin had actually backed it up with some strength, and not tried to downplay it when it became a big story. The Canucks went on to lose Game 7, but after the series this quote was not a big deal at all.
Bruce McNall
4 of 9"Luc Robitaille is a great kid and good player, but ask anybody on the street and they'd probably think Luc Robitaille is a type of salad dressing."
Bruce McNall, made this interesting statement as the owner of the L.A. Kings at the time of the Wayne Gretzky trade.
Kevin Bieksa
5 of 9“It’s hard to move 275 pounds of loose meat.”
Kevin Bieksa on Dustin Byfuglien's net presence during the 2010 NHL playoffs.
Neil Smith
6 of 9"The playoffs separate the men from the boys, and we found out we have a lot of boys in our dressing room."
Neil Smith after the New York Rangers were ousted from the playoffs by the Washington Capitals in 1991. Why say this about your team? No good will come.

Terry Crisp
7 of 9"If our goalies were in a divorce case, they could sue for lack of support and be millionaires tomorrow."
Crisp wasn't done with dumb and interesting quotes after a 10-0 loss to the Calgary Flames in 1996.
Bobby Holik
8 of 9"I believe fundamentally we are the worst team in the National Hockey League."
Not exactly words of encouragement after a 9-1 loss during the 2004 season.
Mike Gillis
9 of 9Vancouver Canucks GM Mike Gillis after Game 6 of last year's first-round series against the Chicago Blackhawks. This is whining at its best.
"“These are facts. They’re undeniable,” Gillis said. “The first two games everything is relatively equal, the last four games they haven’t been. And when people seem to think we don’t have the killer instinct, it’s pretty tough to have the killer instinct when you’re killing penalties most of the time.
“Our power play was No. 1 in the League and theoretically we felt there were six or seven legitimate calls that weren’t called for whatever reason. That’s six or seven power-play opportunities for us. It’s going to change the outcome of the game.”
...
“I’m very confident that if we play the same way (Tuesday) night and it’s a level playing field we’ll win the game.”
