Tony Romo Injury: Updates on Cowboys QB's Week 3 Status and Fantasy Value

Adam WellsSep 26, 2011

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is in a lot of pain right now, but he believes he has something to prove to his critics, so he is going to do all that he can to avoid missing Monday night's game against NFC East rival Washington.

The team remains optimistic that its star quarterback will be able to start the game, it is just a question of whether or not he will be able to finish the game. A fractured rib and punctured lung are not two injuries that you can just play through.

According to Dr. Mark Adickes, who was a guest on Fox's NFL Pregame show on Sunday, Romo is not going to risk further damage to his rib and lung.

"He just had a little bit of air between his lung and chest wall," Adickes said, "a little crack in his rib. They'll pad it up. He'll be fine."

If Romo can play without restrictions, his performance against the Redskins should be similar to his performances against the Jets and 49ers. That is great news for the Cowboys, who need some good news given all the injuries they have on offense right now.

According to a report by Tim McMahon of ESPNDallas.com, Romo is going to play against the Redskins on Monday night.

"I'm getting better as the week goes on," Romo said on ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown. "I'll deal with it over the course of the next month, but I'll be good to go this week."

I respect what Romo is trying to do, but his midsection is going to be a target throughout the game, and one good shot is going to knock him out of this game and for a number of games following this one.
