Kenny Britt Injury: 3 Tennessee Titans Who Must Step Up in His Absence

Justine BrownSep 26, 2011

Tennessee Titans No. 1 option at wide receiver, Kenny Britt, injured his knee on Sunday in the team's game against the Broncos.  Early signs from the injury indicate that Britt has likely suffered a torn ACL which would put him out for the rest of the season.

Thus far into the season, Britt has been responsible for much of the Titans' scoring, leading the team in touchdowns with three and in receiving yards with 289.  Aside from Britt, Nate Washington is the only other receiver that has shown productivity.

In order for the Titans to try and replace Britt, there are a few players who have to step up and take over.

Chris Johnson, Running Back

1 of 3

The first person on the list of people who need to step up for the Tennessee Titans is the $53 million man—Chris Johnson.  Since signing the astounding four-year contract extension worth $30 million guaranteed, Johnson has been nothing but a disappointment.  Not only is he yet to prove he is worth the money, but his effort doesn't seem the same as in years past.

In the first three games of the season, Johnson has rushed for less than 100 yards combined, rushing for a measly 24 yards in Week 1, 53 in Week 2 and 21 in Week 3.  With the Titans now lacking at wide receiver depth it is that much more crucial that Johnson gets his running game together in order to help relieve pressure on the wide receivers and quarterback.

Craig Stevens, Tight End

2 of 3

The second person who is going to have to step up and become a bigger target for the Titans' offense is tight end Craig  Stevens.

Stevens did a decent job of filling in some of the void left by Britt today, reeling in a big pass for 58 yards.  However, aside from today's big catch, Stevens has just one catch in each of the other two games for a total for a total of three yards.

Stevens is going to have to be aggressive and consistent in order to be more of an impact.

Damian Williams, Wide Receiver

3 of 3

Listed as No. 2 on the depth chart behind Kenny Britt, wide receiver Damian Williams will definitely be one of the players asked to step up and fill some gaps.  Just a second-year player, Williams has yet to accumulate over 50 yards in a game, but perhaps, this opportunity will give him the chance to grow and break out.
