Next Move for Randy Orton After Loss to Mark Henry: Teaming with Christian?

Matthew HemphillJun 5, 2018

Randy Orton finally lost at Night of Champions to Mark Henry, making two important statements.

The first was that Mark Henry finally got his first title reign after a decade and a half with the WWE.

The second was that the WWE was willing to pull the title off Orton.

If they play this right they could have a huge rivalry build up, not for Orton, but for Sheamus.

The WWE sees Orton as a poster boy, but they could help build up Sheamus as a strong babyface, and at the same time, set up two great rivalries. They could have Randy Orton fight Henry and then win or lose and then win in a third match, but that is expected.

It's probably what will happen at Hell in a Cell. It's what the WWE does.

It's predictable.

Instead of being predictable, though, the WWE should go for the unexpected.

Orton has shown erratic emotional control ever since Christian got under his skin. It cost him several times and it seemed to color his judgement.

This can be used in reverse.

Before the title match at Hell in a Cell, Orton should attack Henry, and in doing so, lose him the pay-per-view match. Instead of having him try to go after Henry again, the WWE should have him go to Christian.

Instead of attacking him, he should state that he realizes why Christian was so willing to sacrifice honor and integrity for the title, and now, he is willing to do the same.

Alone, neither of them can beat Henry, but together, they might stand a chance. Though neither of them should trust each other, they should decide to get the title off a newly-invigorated Henry.

This could be built up with both of them interrupting Henry's matches on SmackDown and not letting him get a title defense in. Instead of having a match with either of them, he is continually having to face them as they interrupt his matches, while demanding that he fight them in a two-on-one match.

Finally after Hell in a cell, they should interrupt his match, and then finally agree to have a match with them at Vengeance.

In the match, all three men should be taken to the brink. Henry should be stronger then each man individually, but between the two of them, they are too strong.

Just as Orton is about to beat Henry for the title, Christian should interrupt him bickering with each other about who should win the match.

This would give Henry a chance to beat both of them and just barely pick up the win.

On the next SmackDown, Henry should have a match with Sheamus for the title, but have Orton and Christian banned from ringside or they will be suspended from the WWE. Henry should lose the match because he is still exhausted from the match at Vengeance.

Later in the show, Orton should confront Sheamus and state that he is after him now because he has the title and that he made a mistake teaming with Christian.

Orton should mention that he couldn't care less over his losses to Henry as the only thing that matters is the belt. Once he has that, it proves that Orton is the best and immediately makes him better than Henry.

This should set off Sheamus, who should discredit Orton for ridiculing Henry and believing such things. If it's played right it could build into a huge rivalry with Sheamus going over.

It's probably not what the WWE will do with Orton. They will probably have him win in Hell in a Cell or soon after.

But it's what they could do.
