Kerry Collins Injury: Update on Colts' QB's Concussion
In the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Kerry Collins left the game with a concussion.
Collins, mind you, was the replacement for Peyton Manning, who is coming off two neck surgeries and expected to miss another two months of the season.
Collins' injury made way for the Colts' third-string quarterback to enter the game. Don't worry, if you don't know who he is, it just means you aren't a Colts fan.

Fantasy Impact
When Manning went down and Collins took his place, most of the fantasy football world dropped receivers Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie, knowing that if they had even half the production they had with Manning, it would basically be a miracle.
But Collins' concussion, if it keeps him out for a while, will now hurt star receiver Reggie Wayne, who still managed to rack up 172 yards and a touchdown in the first two weeks with Collins as the QB.
In short, Collins was at the bottom of the totem pole. Collins' backup may actually make Colts fans miss Collins, and I never thought I'd say that.
Basically, stay away from every Colts' offensive player while Collins is out.
Who's the Backup?
I'll give you a hint, he certainly didn't paint a pretty picture when he came in to relieve Collins in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game.
That's right. Curtis Painter! Painter, as you may or may not know, was a sixth-round pick of the Colts in 2009. He had a grand total of 28 passing attempts coming into Sunday's game. In his first drive, he overthrew Pierre Garcon with Garcon wide open and bound to score a touchdown.
You want to know Painter's fantasy value? He has none.
Devastation Scale
If Collins wasn't so bad, I would have put this at a 10. But honestly, you would think it can't get much worse than what Collins displayed.
However, it can still get worse. I'll put this at a 9. Let me put it this way: If
Painter starts the rest of the season, the Colts won't win the division, let alone finish ahead of any of the other teams in the AFC South.
Timeline for Return
There is no word on how long the concussion will hold Collins out for, but given the NFL's new policy on concussions, it's hard to believe Collins won't be out for at least a week. Then again, the Colts may try every trick in the book to keep Painter off the field.
What They're Saying
With a situation as comical as this, I knew exactly where to turn: the Twitter account of Eric Stangel, the head writer and executive producer of Late Show with David Letterman.
Here are a couple of his tweets:
"Curtis Painter warming up. The only way he could be worse than Kerry Collins would be if he swallowed the football
If he keeps throwing like that, Curtis will be a Painter by tomorrow...
Colts just put Kerry Collins on one Greyhound bus, picked up Jeff George from another...
"
LIFE HURTS. THIS INJURY UPDATE BROUGHT TO YOU BY DICKIES.
