Michael Vick Injury: Why Superstar Shouldn't Play the Blame Game
I think we need to get Michael Vick a tissue.
After his post-game whine session about the refs in the Eagles 29-16 loss at home to the New York Giants, Vick sounded like a little kid that's not getting his way.
He broke his arm in the game and felt it was the referees' fault:
"It’s an unfortunate situation. After such a great play I felt like I got hit late, no flag, broke my hand. That’s it. That’s pretty much been the story for the past three weeks, and obviously at some point something catastrophic was going to happen, and I broke my hand."
"There’s no reason for me to go into a big dissertation about why I’m not getting the calls. The refs have to do their jobs as well. I even mentioned it in training camp to the refs when we had our little meeting."
This just in: this is the NFL and the biggest stars in the league have huge bulls-eyes on their jerseys for defenders to zero in on. The object is to take away the opponents' best weapon and if it's by injury...so be it.
After DeAngelo Hall publicly admitted he plans to go after Tony Romo's broken ribs, the Cowboys QB didn't complain. That's because he knows what you sign up for when playing the position.
I'll give Vick the benefit of the doubt that he was extremely frustrated at the time of his comments. It was right after his team fell to 1-2 on the season and just found out he had a broken hand that will keep him out of action for at least the next week.
Complaining about the way refs use their flags is not going to make his hand heal any faster. In the history of complaining about refs, I don't think there has been a single success story. If anything, he should expect to see even less yellow on the field when there is a questionable call. People get upset that QBs are too protected as it is, complaining for more will be heard on deaf ears.
He may be getting a call or fine from the commissioners office, and refs won't be changing how they officiate Vick. Basically, he just gave all of his haters a ton of ammunition to rip him.
It's only Week 3, but the frustration is already boiling over in Philly.
