Michael Vick, Kenny Britt and the 5 Biggest Injuries of NFL Sunday Week 3
As happens all too frequently, we are spending the late games going over injuries from the early games.
We have some possible huge ones today of players who will be very hard to replace if they cannot come back quickly.
Come with us as we take a closer look at some of the players who made us—and their teammates—cringe earlier today.
Michael Vick
1 of 5Michael Vick has taken a tremendous amount of hits this season, some of it his fault and some of it not.
Vick left today's game against the New York Giants with what ended up being a broken hand. It wasn't his throwing hand, so he returned, although at times, looked a little shaken up, leading me to wonder if there was another concussion in there somewhere.
The Eagles need to find a solution to keep him healthy without sacrificing his mobility. If they cannot, it will be difficult to climb that mountain to the Super Bowl, as the team with Mike Kafka at the helm is a much different—and less effective—beast.
Vick appears good to go, but at the rate he's getting hit, it may only be a matter of time before he misses some time, and the Eagles will have a ton of problems replacing him even if Vince Young gets healthy.
The step down from Vick is too big.
Kenny Britt
2 of 5Britt went down in the middle of the first half against the Denver Broncos with a nasty knee injury.
He was carted off the field and awaits an MRI tomorrow, according to ProFootballtalk.com.
Florio also reports that the speculation is Britt's injury is to his MCL. Whether that is the only injury, Florio says, is unknown and will greatly impact the length of Britt's absence.
What do the Titans do without Britt, arguably their biggest weapon this year, as running back Chris Johnson has largely been a non-factor for most of the season?
Second year player and former USC receiver Damian Williams stepped in for him today, but was largely ineffective. Nate Washington played well, but his ceiling is limited. Lavelle Hawkins also saw a little more time, but like Williams, didn't do much.
It's very hard to replace a talented player like Britt, who, despite off the field problems, is a tremendously talented receiver.
If he misses a long time, the Titans will have to hope Williams or Hawkins can show more than they have so far in their careers.
Frank Gore
3 of 5Frank Gore looked wrong all day and was in and out of the game in the second half.
We were unsure as to why it has been revealed now that he suffered a sprained ankle in the middle of the second quarter.
While the hope is Gore's ankle isn't too bad, there is always the worry that the dreaded sprained ankle could be there.
If Gore and his ankle cannot go next week, expect rookie Kendall Hunter to play some more.Hunter was the one who stepped in at the end of the game and compiled 38 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.
Gore is a very good running back, but Hunter could potentially be a very big part of this offense as well.
Percy Harvin
4 of 5Harvin left Sunday's game after vomiting in a trash can in the second half. He'd been dealing with an illness the latter portion of the week and tried to play through it today.
It is not a repeat of Harvin's migraine issues that we are aware of, but it does bring to mind all the times Harvin has been illm either with migraines or other issues.
Next to Adrian Peterson, Harvin is about the only other bright spot in the offense with any real consistency. The Vikings are struggling anyway, but it could get worse if Harvin isn't a threat to slip out into the flat for a big gain.
There is little to no other options if he goes down or misses a game due to his frequent migraines or other illnesses.
The Vikings can't afford to allow him to be sick and might want to put him in a protective bubble.
Tom Brady's Pride
5 of 5Four picks from Tom Brady? FOUR?
Unconscionable. Tom is probably weeping now.
OK, maybe not, but really; how many quarterbacks can throw for almost 400 yards for a third straight game and still have more conversation about his picks than his yards.
It's a tough loss though, ending a Bills skid of 15 games without a win.
The Pats play the Oakland Raiders next week. I'd really hate to be the Raiders.
