Tom Brady: Why Patriots QB Came Crashing Down to Earth vs Bills

Jon DoveJun 7, 2018

Tom Brady's four interception performance shows that he is human. The Buffalo Bills defense put a major chink in the armor of Brady and the Patriots. This was everyone's upset pick of the week, but did anyone actually feel the Bills would win? I can guarantee that nobody expected Brady to throw four interceptions.

The Patriots know that Tom Brady is their best player, thus allowing him to throw the football 45 times. However, this makes the Patriots a one dimensional team. The running backs had to split 22 carries, never able to get a rhythm. Even with the lead, New England decided to continue to pass the football.

This strategy and Brady's interceptions are what ultimately led to the loss. New England needs to do a better job of finding balance. Let Brady loosen things up for the running game by getting an early lead. Anytime a quarterback throws the ball 45 times, it increases the chances of an interception.

The Patriots running backs were actually pretty productive, averaging 4.2 yards per carry. Again, Brady is a great quarterback, but throwing the ball 45 times will lead to eventual interceptions.

A few of Brady's interceptions came off of tipped passes. Any time the ball is tipped, it leads to unanticipated results. A tipped football could fall harmlessly to the ground or land in the arms of a defender.

Tipped passes could result from a defensive lineman getting his hands up or a receiver missing a pass. The Bills did a great job of getting their hands up, tipping the ball a the line. However, the back-end of the defense needs to be commended for their ability to make plays on the football.

Brady has come back to earth, but he will rebound from this performance. He is a veteran quarterback with great confidence and ability.
