UFC 135 Results: Jon Jones vs. Anderson Silva Head to Toe Breakdown
As you know by now, Jon Jones successfully defended his light heavyweight title on Saturday night against Quinton "Rampage" Jackson by submitting him in the fourth round with a rear naked choke.
Almost immediately, speculation ran rampant on whether or not Jones would be able to defeat Anderson Silva.
There was speculation before, but now that Jones proved some of the hype, the idea just garnered even more attention.
Here's a head to toe breakdown for the fictional, but hopefully future, matchup between Jon "Bones" Jones and Anderson "The Spider" Silva.
Striking
1 of 7No surprise here, but it was a lot tougher to call than you think.
Both Jones and Silva have outstanding striking, but Silva gets the edge because of his lethality with his strikes, and his ability to end any fight at any moment.
Jones hasn't developed that ability...yet.
Wrestling
2 of 7This one is a no brainer.
Not only is wrestling Jones' forte, but it's also Silva's weakness.
Jones clearly has the wrestling edge over Silva.
Jits
3 of 7Another real no brainer here.
Anderson Silva is a black belt in BJJ under the Nogueira brothers, which means a bit more than Chael Sonnen would like you to believe, and was able to submit Sonnen after being beat on for 23 minutes.
Jon Jones does now have four submissions to his name, but he is not at the caliber of Silva's submissions.
Cardio
4 of 7Neither fighter has really been "gassed" and in danger in their UFC fights, at least not according to themโlooking at you Jonesโso this one is a push.
Their cardio would both be top notch.
Experience
5 of 7Experience is another no brainer.
Anderson Silva had his first professional fight in 1997, when Jones was 10 years old and could have been taking a spelling test in grade school.
Silva won the UFC middleweight title when Jones was winning the NJCAA Junior Collegiate Championship.
Silva has been fighting MMA far longer than Jones.
Size
6 of 7There's no objectivity in this one.
Jones is bigger than Silva in height. Jones stands at 6'4", Silva stands at 6'2".
Jones has an 84.5" reach. Silva has a 77.6" reach.
Clear edge.
Winner
7 of 7This fight could go one of two ways. Silva could TKO Jones on the feet, but I see it going down differently.
I see Jones getting this fight to the ground and doing what Chael Sonnen couldn't, and finishing "The Spider" with "hellbows" and punches.
Prediction: Jon Jones via third round TKO
