Premier League Results: Queens Park Rangers vs. Aston Villa Ends in 1-1 Draw

Lindsay EanetJun 7, 2018

UK Prime Minister David Cameron was among the Aston Villa supporters who went home just a bit disappointed, today; after some bad luck and an injury-time goal prevented Villa from taking home a victory in today's match at Loftus Road. Instead, Alex McLeish's side earned their fourth consecutive draw in a Premiership match, finishing 1-1 against Queens Park Rangers.

The first half of the match went scoreless for both sides, but the first half belonged to QPR, with Adel Taarabt leading the charge. The midfielder demonstrated impressive skill and control and gave the Rangers one of their best opportunities of the first half—a resounding shot which bounced off the post. Villa fired back and shifted the tempo of the match in their favor at the beginning of the second half, making more and better connections.

The visitors recovered and finally got their chance in the 58th minute after the referee ruled an Armand Traoré foul on Gabriel Agbonlahor (although the two appeared to make very minimal contact), which led to a Villa penalty kick. Barry Bannan landed the attempt successfully and gave Villa the lead.

Despite a last minute surge led by a strong performance and some well placed attempts from QPR substitute Heidar Helguson, it looked like things were over when Armand Traoré got sent off with his second yellow card; for a dive that knocked down Marc Albrighton just before the end of the second half. But then Richard Dunne got caught up in Alan Hutton's deflection of a Helguson goal attempt and it landed into the goal, giving the Rangers the equalizer and their first home goal of the season, which ended the match in a draw.
