Tim Tebow Tweets: Sends Subtle Rebuke to His Fans?

The Denver Broncos are just a few minutes from kickoff against the Tennessee Titans and without fail Tim Tebow sent out his customary Bible verse tweet a few hours prior to the game. What isn’t so customary is the message contained in today’s update.

Tim Tebow started his 2011-12 season off with this tweet: Joshua 1:9, “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest (KJV).” This is the usual uplifting, “God is on my side” type of tweets that Tebow is known to produce.

Here’s another posted just September 1:  Psalm 37:4-5, “Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass (KJV).” This definitely sounds like a guy committed not only to his faith, but certain that with continued perseverance his desires will be fulfilled. 

These tweets are the ones we’ve come to expect from Tim Tebow and what many fans look to on Sundays for encouragement from their favorite rookie quarterback. However, today’s tweet seems less of an uplifting note to fans and more like a subtle warning.

Today he tweeted this verse: Ephesians 4:32, “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you (KJV).” Does is it sound as if he’s trying to tell the fans something? 

Tebow has taken much heat recently for his more exuberant fans’ behavior. Many called for him to publicly denounce the fans who wanted to put up billboards in Denver calling for him to start over Kyle Orton. Others have said he needs to quell the booing or chanting of his name that starts when he can't play. 

He is yet to do that, but he has made some statements that if you read between the lines you can infer he’s saying, “Hey guys, thanks for the support, but boy are you making things tough for me with my teammates and coach.”

With today’s tweet, Tebow seems to be making a more direct plea to his fans to calm down, stop dividing the Broncos fan base and trust that his time will come. But that’s just one take. Another more cynical look at this Bible verse could be saying, “Forgive the Tebow Haters for they know not what they do.” But I doubt that’s the angle he’s going for. That’s just not Tim Tebow’s style.

No one is expecting to see Tebow play today, unless possibly in the capacity of emergency wide receiver (he was seen taking passes in warm-up). So that means Tebow fans will just have to cool their jets one more week and maybe no one knows that better than the man himself.
