Roy Williams Injury: Should You Start Bears WR in Fantasy Football Week 3?

Andrea HangstJun 7, 2018

Chicago Bears wide receiver Roy Williams, who has been limited in practice all week with a groin pull, will play today against the Green Bay Packers.

If you're one of Williams' fantasy football owners, this is good news. However, if you have better options, I recommend starting another wide receiver in his place, and it's not because of injury.

It's no secret that the Bears revolve around running back Matt Forte, who accounts for a whopping 52 percent of Chicago's total offense so far this season. Williams, meanwhile, has just four receptions for 55 yards and did not play last week against the New Orleans Saints.

Williams is a poor fantasy option even when completely healthy. The Bears offense, beyond Forte, is inconsistent behind quarterback Jay Cutler, who can't get enough protection from his offensive line to throw the ball with any effectiveness.

We all already know about Williams' issues with dropped passes; now, he's struggling to get any targets his way. And today, with the Bears taking on the defending Super Bowl champions and division rival Packers, it's not looking good for Chicago's chances in the air.

The key to stopping the Bears' offense is to put pressure on Cutler. From there, the focus shifts to containing Forte.

Surely, Williams will get a few passes thrown his way this afternoon. But, I do not see it being a significant enough number for him to be a must-start fantasy wide receiver this week.

If you have depth at the position, I recommend starting another receiver. Williams should only be a fantasy starter if all other options have been exhausted.
