CM Punk vs. Triple H: What Is Next for the WWE Angle on Raw?

David LevinSep 28, 2011

Has there ever been a wrestling storyline that appeared to be so damn good yet faded away faster than Kerry Von Erich's NWA title reign?

For the life of me, I am not sure where the CM Punk/Triple H angle evaporated to, but it is evident that the WWE and creative have really missed on a golden opportunity here with the head of WWE and his nemesis trading barbs and then getting in the ring, only for it to become a sideshow with four other angles in the same match.

Shame on you, WWE creative. This could have been as good as McMahon/Austin if it was developed correctly. I know there have been some chinks in the game plan when it came to this angle (Kevin Nash showing up, not being able to wrestle and then getting a part in a Hollywood movie so he cannot give be involved on a daily basis with wrestling), but there was enough there to really make this one sing.

Now, it is only humming a really bad Phil Collins song.

Triple H can still sell and it looked like CM Punk would be fine selling for the COO, but there is too much going on with other angles within the WWE that the focus of a feud between the two cannot continue the way it intended.

In fact, I really see something in the future (Survivor Series), where Punk and Triple H are side by side against a "conspiracy" angle that could also include John Cena, Alberto Del Rio, The Miz and R-Truth.

Triple H and CM Punk was the closest thing we had seen to McMahon/Austin since the two went toe-to-toe in the ring. And it was getting good. Punk was punking Triple H about his role in the company, his wife, his ability to manage...EVERYTHING.

And now, with R-Truth and Miz being "fired," the feud loses steam because the two misfits put their hands on the owner, who is now he is trying to restore order in the company.

In order for there to be more to this, there has to be an angle still associated with Triple H and Kevin Nash. I don't see this happening. I don't see a connection and I certainly don't see it being dragged out further than it has to.

Punk is gaining momentum again and as a face with John Cena. That carries more weight than one can imagine. Triple H still has to teeter between face and heel for the good of WWE, but right now, it cannot work.

Truthfully, it is a shame because it could have been the best thing going as Cena is now feuding with other contenders,

and while he would still welcome a challenge from Punk, the champion needs to turn his attention to others like Alberto Del Rio, Jack Swagger and Dolph Ziggler, all of whom could really get another push at WWE gold.
