NFL Predictions Week 3: Which Coaches Will Turn Up Heat on Hot Seat?

Jon DoveSep 25, 2011

Jack Del Rio, Jim Caldwell, and Tom Coughlin will all be facing questions about their jobs.  The seats in Jacksonville, Indianapolis, and New York are heating up.  Each of these coaches will have an opportunity to cool things down, but things are looking warm.  It is also possible other coaches end up on the hot seat, including Todd Haley.

The Jacksonville Jaguars management have told Jack Del Rio that he needs to make the playoffs in order to save his job.  However, they decided to release his starting quarterback several days away from the opening game.  Del Rio will be starting a rookie quarterback, and hoping he can develop quickly.  After many years in Jacksonville, it may be time for Del Rio to move on.

Jim Caldwell is in an unfortunate position, having lost Peyton Manning.  However, the poor play of the team is disappointing.  Manning was the leader and best player on the Colts, but there are other talented players.  This team has looked pathetic, heating the seat of their head coach.  Caldwell is a former quarterbacks coach, and the lack of development of Curtis Painter should fall directly on his shoulders.

Every year we talk about the status of Tom Coughlin's job.  However, missing the playoffs in back-to-back seasons could mean the end of his run in New York.  His team is facing the tough challenge of having to overcome multiple injuries, but in the NFL you are expect to win.  This could very well be the last season for Coughlin in New York.

Todd Haley is said to be on the hot seat, but I argue that claim. Last season, the Chiefs were not expected to compete, making their playoff berth a complete surprise.  Should a coach be punished for exceeding expectations?  Haley's seat shouldn't start to warm up until the end of the season, and only if the Chiefs continue their embarrassing play.
