Week 3 Fantasy Football: 3 Injured Stars You Must Play

Michael DixonJun 7, 2018

You never want to see an injury alter a fantasy matchup. Well, if it alters it in a good way for you, then it's not so bad.

This early in the year, injured players are generally worth avoiding. But there are some cases where you would be foolish to let an injury scare you away.

In the case of guys like Michael Vick or Arian Foster, I am with you. Leave them on the bench. But these guys aren't in anywhere near as much danger.

Kenny Britt

At a position like receiver, I normally advise to bench injured players. Even if they are probable, there are a lot of receivers out there. So even if you leave a good player on the bench, it's not going to hurt you too bad.

But given how little Chris Johnson has done this year, Tennessee's offense will be reliant on the passing game. If you leave Kenny Britt on the bench for fear if bad performance, you will regret it.

Say what you will about his off of the field problems. That shouldn't enter into your mind when deciding on a fantasy lineup. Put Britt in your lineup. He's a genuine fantasy stud right now.

Calvin Johnson

Johnson was questionable last week. He only had three catches for 29 yards, but two of them were touchdowns.

Now, the injury appears to be much better. Minnesota has a defense that Johnson can absolutely shine against.

Given how strong Matthew Stafford has been this year, Johnson is a must start. I know that doesn't sound bold, but it does need to be reiterated when the player is banged up and on an official injury report.

Johnson is easily a top-five receiver in the NFL this year. Anyone leaving him on the bench doesn't deserve to play fantasy football.

OK, that may be a little too mean, but you don't want Johnson's production on your bench.

Brent Celek

Putting my offensive coordinator hat on, this is how I see Philadelphia running their offense against New York.

Michael Vick is banged up and they don't want him running around. Actually, they don't want him taking any hits.

So, they will probably be calling a lot of run plays and short passes.

Tight ends are great options on short passes. Celek's best games haven't been with Vick. Still, his chances of having a strong week are good.

Philadelphia does not want to risk Vick's help. So, the kind of offense that they will need to run is conducive for tight end success.
