Jon Jones vs. Rampage Jackson: Is It End of the Road for Rampage with a Loss?

Scott HarrisSep 24, 2011

Tonight's UFC 135 event in Denver, Colo., comes to a head when light-heavyweight beltholder Jon Jones defends his title for the first time against MMA veteran Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.

Jones is heavily favored to defeat Rampage. At 33 years of age, Jackson is not exactly Old Man Winter, but he's not a spring chicken any more, either. Especially when you consider that his fight with Jones will be his 41st professional MMA contest.

As every fight fan knows, Jackson (32-8) is a former UFC light heavyweight champion and an accomplished fighter from the now-defunct Pride promotion. He's a well-rounded fighter, even if he tends to favor (understandably) his formidable fists as his primary weapons in the cage.

But if he can't dethrone Bones Jones, is it a sign that his gas tank is hitting E?

Jackson, who starred as B.A. Baracus in "The A-Team," has repeatedly said that he would love to pursue an acting career. And who could blame him? Problem is, Hollywood doesn't drop everything and hand you 10 movie scripts just because you want them to.

That may be what keeps Jackson in the fight game. Even if he can't defeat Jones, it doesn't mean there aren't still plenty of fights--and dollars--to be made in the UFC for Rampage Jackson. Here's guessing he'll be around for some time to come. Or at least until he gets his next big role.
