Week 3 NFL Picks: 3 Games That Will Be Dominated by Defenses

Michael DixonSep 25, 2011

Even in the offensive world of the NFL, there is still plenty of room for defensive football. You just have to look in the right places.

There are still plenty of good defenses in the NFL. More importantly, there are plenty of bad offenses.

Regardless of why they are low scoring, there are a few games that will be. If you're not a fan of a lot of offense, look no further than these places.

Miami Dolphins at Cleveland Browns

I do believe that the Dolphins have a strong defense. I don't know that it's a top-five defense, but it's certainly not as bad as it has looked in the first two games of the season.

Miami's offense isn't going to dominate anyone. Yes, I know Chad Henne is off to a good start and Brandon Marshall is an absolute man-beast, but their running game is too questionable to think that they will run up and down the field on anyone.

I like the defenses to take this game over. This game will be much closer to the 23-13 game that Miami played against Houston than the 38-24 shootout they lost against New England.

I like the Dolphins to win this one. Their defense is too good to look this bad three weeks in a row.

Baltimore Ravens at St. Louis Rams

The last thing the Ravens' defense needs is to have their opponent's star player banged up. But that's what they are getting with the Rams and Steven Jackson.

The Ravens come into this game with a chip on their shoulder. Well, if they aren't angry, they need to be. After beating Pittsburgh in Week 1, they got way too complacent against Tennessee and paid the price for it.

Offensively, I don't see them scoring what they did against Pittsburgh. A lot of turnovers could change that, but I see the Rams being able to protect the ball well enough.

My best guess for this one is that Baltimore will win and win convincingly. The final score may not look too bad. But in a battle of defenses, I will take the Ravens any day.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Indianapolis Colts

This was certainly not what the network executives at NBC had in mind when they scheduled their block of Sunday Night Football games.

The Colts are a depleted team trying to figure out how to do anything without Peyton Manning.

Defensively, I like their chances at getting to Ben Roethlisberger often enough to keep this one low scoring.

Unfortunately, the Indianapolis offense would do well to not get shutout here. Given their offensive issues and Pittsburgh's poor offensive line, this one could be really low scoring.

I think Pittsburgh wins relatively easily, but I don't expect a ton of points.
