LSU vs. West Virginia: 5 Halftime Adjustments the Tigers Must Make

Nick YokoyamaJun 7, 2018

Stop the Stupid Penalties

LSU has already committed a number of inexcusable penalties in the first half.  They need to make sure their high-intensity defense does not rack up anymore personal foul calls that could harm them in the second half.

Keep up the Physical D

The Tigers defense has already called out WVU’s WRs before tonight’s game.  Tyrann Mathieu has started the game off strong making a sick strip on WR Brad Starks.  LSU needs to keep putting pressure on the Mountaineers offense by jamming the receivers.

Attack the Left Side

The Tigers should keep trying to target the left side of West Virginia’s defense, in particular DB Pat Miller. Miller has already given up a couple big plays on third down, and LSU should look to capitalize on his inexperience by attacking him with deep throws in the second half.

Disguise Pressure/ Hurry Geno Smith

The Tigers need to start dialing up different pressure packages to hurry up Geno Smith.  If LSU can push him out of the pocket, they can force more rushed throws and easy interceptions for their secondary.

Keep WVU Guessing

LSU has already established the Power-I and downhill running game. They should keep WVU’s defense on their toes by keeping up the play-action. A balanced offensive play call will keep the Mountaineers guessing as they seem to have no answer for the Tigers' potent offense.
