UFC 135 Predictions: Jon Jones Will Wrestle a Victory from Rampage Jackson
Quinton "Rampage" Jackson appears as motivated and as in shape as he has been in years. This has led to many people calling for Jackson to reclaim the UFC light heavyweight title in his match with current champ Jon Jackson.
It's not going to happen.
Jon Jones has very few holes in his game. And this particular matchup plays right into his hands. The 6'4" Jones has an 11.5" reach advantage over Jackson.
He is going to be able to use that reach and his solid boxing skills to keep Rampage at a harmless distance.
However, Rampage is strong and quick enough to get inside. And he will need to. If Rampage has any advantage on Jones, it is in interior boxing skills.
However, the problem for Rampage is that Jones is an elite wrestler and the master of Thai Clinch. This is not exactly the kind of fighter that you should feel comfortable moving into the interior against.
He is going to have no problem using his clinch and wrestling skills when Rampage comes in close.
Jones has not proven to be a good submission fighter in his young career, which will certainly slow his ability to end this fight via his wrestling, but he can use his fierce ground and pound once these two hit the mat.
This promises to be an electrifying bout. Rampage is not going to go down easily, but in the end, I just don't see a strategy for him that results in a victory.
