UFC 135 Predictions: Why Rampage Jackson Will Defeat Jon Jones with KO

Justin WeltonJun 7, 2018

Jon Jones may be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the light heavyweight division, but Quinton "Rampage" Jackson has been around the block a time or two. All he needs is one shot to knock somebody out and he will get that Saturday night.

Both fighters will come to the octagon prepared for an absolute war.

Jones was expected to make his first title defense in early August, but that was cancelled because of his hand injury.

Instead, Jones will now face Jackson in his first title defense. Jackson has been in this situation before and he has seen both sides of the coin.

How will Jones handle the pressure of defending a title? Either he will embrace the pressure and overcome the circumstances forcing his name into the elite category in the UFC or he will choke and make a name for himself in a bad way.

The choice will be his.

Jackson will be 100 percent focused on pounding the daylights out of Jones. Whether it is with his basic strikes or with his counter punches, Jackson will have the power edge on Jones.

Probably the most important minutes will be in the very beginning when we find out what type of fighting style both will bring. Jones’ height, reach and speed will all be evident, but how effective will he be in those areas?

He is a confident fighter. Jackson may want to be aggressive in the first round to get Jones’ confidence level down a bit.

If Jones gets going early by landing several punches and effectively executing his game plan, Jackson may be in for a long fight.

But, if Jackson pushes the tempo and lands a few big punches early, it just may shrink the confidence level of Jones. This will allow Jackson to be more free flowing with his punches.

Whatever the outcome is, I would bet anything it would be better than Floyd Mayweather vs. Victor Ortiz. This match will prove why the UFC has officially taken over for boxing.
