LSU vs. West Virginia: Tigers Will Be No. 1 After Epic Road Win at WVU

Andrew KulhaSep 24, 2011

There should be no doubt that the LSU Tigers are the best college football team in the country, but if there is it will be wiped out after tonight’s matchup at West Virginia.

I can admit, before the season I did not believe in LSU whatsoever. I felt that when quarterback Jordan Jefferson went down they would lose the explosiveness they needed to be a legitimate contender.

Here is a quote from an article I wrote about the Jefferson situation:

"

The first game of the 2011 season has the Tigers squaring off against the Oregon Ducks, and I can all but guarantee you that if Jordan Jefferson isn’t playing, the Tigers have no shot at winning that game.

That alone will have severe ramifications on their BCS hopes.

If the Tigers don’t have Jordan Jefferson, their season is done before it even gets started.

"

I didn’t think they were good enough on offense to keep up with the better teams in the SEC, and I didn’t believe in their defense.

I have no problem admitting that I was completely wrong about LSU.

In fact, they have won me over, and if you know me at all you would understand that it’s a hard thing to do.

The fact that they went out there and changed my opinion not with hype, but with their dominant play, says everything you need to know about this football team.

They aren’t a team that comes in with the hype of an Oregon or Oklahoma, and they are not a team littered with superstars like Alabama.

They are a team of solid football players up and down the roster. They work together and play hard, and when all is said and done they go out and get the job done.

They’ve tested themselves in every single way, and so far they’ve passed all their tests.

They started the year with an impressive win against an Oregon team that many people, including myself, thought would run all over them.

Instead, the Tigers shut their offense down and took them out of their element. Offensively they controlled the pace of the game with a bruising running game and smart quarterback play out of Jarrett Lee.

After a cupcake at home against Northwestern State, they went into Mississippi State and dominated the Bulldogs in every facet of the game.

I fully expect the same result tonight as they head into West Virginia to play the No. 16 Mountaineers in another prime-time game.

The Tigers are setting themselves up to be the best team in the nation, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them ranked No. 1 when all is said and done.
