WWE: 3 Storylines That Should Be Revived, 3 That Should Die

Nathan GieseSep 24, 2011

In professional wrestling, making a storyline seem credible and coherent is a very tricky task.  It takes a lot of time and effort try and make the audience believe in the story they are trying to tell.

Many times, there are stories that are taken too far (Katie Vick and Mae Young giving birth to a hand), while there are others that never get the attention and follow-through to make them work.

WWE has green lighted some very pointless and disturbing stories.  Others never get to see their conclusions, or their conclusions are poorly thought out and given very little background information.

Today, we're going to look at three storylines that quickly died out and three that have been given far too much time and shouldn't be played out because of their lack of importance.

Here they are:

Should Die: Jerry Lawler and His Feud with Otunga and McGuillicuty

1 of 7

If there was ever a more poorly executed feud in the WWE right now, it's the one going on on RAW with Jerry "The King" Lawler and his feud, if you can really call it that, with former tag team champions David Otunga and Michael McGullicuty.

Jerry has never been a fan of the former Nexus cronies but it never got to be so obsessive for him that he would call them out, repeatedly, during their matches.  It wasn't until their first tag match against AirBoom that Jerry finally let his voice be heard about how they have no charisma and have failed to gain anybody's attention.

This obviously upset Otunga and McGullicuty and after they failed to retain their tag titles, they showed Jerry just how much charisma they really have by attacking him.

For the past few weeks, their feud was taken to a different level, making it now a physical confrontation.  For two weeks in a row, Jerry would get to pick his tag team partner to take on Otunga and McGullicuty.  Week 1 he picked Zack Ryder and they won.  Week 2 he picked Sheamus and it wasn't even a question as to who would win, with Sheamus demolishing both of them.

Jerry has made his opinion come in the way of commentating abilities, which are questionable at best to begin with, but now it's gotten ridiculous.  He will not call the match anymore unless he can somehow slam the former tag team champions.

This feud is going nowhere and should never have been placed on the RAW card so frequently.  Just  send Otunga back down to FCW and let McGullicuty take a little break so you can have some time to remake his stale, boring character.

Should Revive: Drew McIntyre and Kelly Kelly Love Story

2 of 7

Kelly Kelly is the Divas Champion and has made her case about being able to put on a solid match every once in a while.

Drew McIntyre, well, the last time we saw him he was sent crashing down off of a big inflatable padding along with Mark Henry and Big Show.  Actually, that was one of his only appearances on television since switching over to RAW. Since then, he hasn't been seen or heard from.

Towards the end of their run with Smackdown before both being drafted to RAW, McIntyre was in the process of courting the beautiful Kelly Kelly.  He would save her from attacks by LayCool and even though she never really seemed interested in Drew, he wasn't going to stop trying to protect her.

Before they were drafted to RAW, it almost appeared as if Drew was on his way to winning her over, resulting in a possible relationship.  Since then, Kelly has gone on to becoming the face of the Divas division while Drew is pushing still being on the roster.

By reopening their almost relationship, Drew will once again be put into a significant role.  Actually, anything to get him on TV would do just fine.  Kelly can only protect herself from the likes of the Divas of Doom, Beth Phoenix and Natalya, and their attempt to toughen up the Diva's division.  Also, lord knows that Eve is not the best option to help her with protective details.

This story had some potential but it was just cut off before anything could become of it.

Should Die: Sin Cara vs. Sin Cara

3 of 7

I'm probably going to get a lot of grief for this one as many fans have been looking forward to this for sometime now.

But as exciting and entertaining as two high-flying superstars appears on the surface, this story lacks so much to be considered legitimate.

It's nearly impossible to have a feud between two guys who don't talk, as neither one has yet to say a word.  Neither one can go an entire match without botching a few moves and that has brought up many discussions about if they will be able to adapt to the WWE style in the ring.  And, neither one has made their case as to who should be the one and only Sin Cara as both have pretty much the exact same move set with one not being able to distinguish a difference from the other one.

This feud has so many flaws in it it's hard to say just how successful this could be, especially when you take into account the past copycat rivalries that have failed miserably.  Kane vs. Kane and Undertaker vs. Undertaker immediately come to mind as they were both cases of other rising stars facing themselves and finishing at the utter disappointment of the fans.

There is not enough to back up this feud right now and it takes up too much TV to be taken seriously.  This should end quickly or just be killed off immediately for WWE to gain some more credibility in their poor decision making.

Should Revive: Apple Corre Stable

4 of 7

This one is just a personal favorite of mine and wish it could have went somewhere rather than just one appearance on RAW.

In order to counteract Wade Barrett's second attempt at a strong stable, Santino Marella created his own stable.  They weren't the biggest, they weren't the baddest and really, they weren't going to be taken seriously by any means.

APPLE (Allied People Powered by Loathing Everything) was essentially just a ploy to make fun of the Corre, and it made for an extremely entertaining segment on RAW.

Although this was merely for entertainment purposes, part of me wished that this group would be able to last and make for some more hysterical moments in WWE history.

Unfortunately, the group didn't make it past their debut and everyone in the group quickly went back to their own business.  Santino, Evan Bourne, Daniel Bryan and Mark Henry were the group members and each one besides Santino has gone on to bigger and much better things.

Although the group members would have to change, APPLE could be in store for some major success and awesome moments if given the opportunity.

Should Die: Aksana's Affection Towards Teddy Long

5 of 7

Over on Smackdown, Aksana has been around the backstage scene, flirting and seducing General Manager Teddy Long.

As pretty as Aksana is, there really isn't much of a purpose for her position on the roster.  Having Teddy have a love interest on the show does give him more of a dynamic personality but having somebody like Aksana trying to be the one to control his sexual orientation doesn't appeal to me.

There isn't a whole lot to go off of with Aksana's character, considering her most important role before this was convincing Goldust to marry her so she wasn't deported. She subsequently dumped his behind and moved on with her career.

The reason why it doesn't make sense for her to be the one to seduce Teddy is because Aksana cannot wrestle.  She is a terrible in ring performer and has no business trying to have her way with the GM unless she is trying to raise her stake in the Diva's division.

Fixing the issue is beyond possible.  Only having somebody other than Aksana having her way with Teddy could make this story mean something.  Somebody like Rosa Mendes or Alicia Fox having her way with Teddy so they could be put into the title picture would make sense in the matter.

This story does not have a base to go off of and has been a failure from day one.

Should Revive: RAW Anonymous General Manger Story

6 of 7

I know that I am not alone with this thought process.

The RAW Anonymous General Manager story was annoying at times, but it helped to further other stories to their full potential.  Michael Cole's long heel run wouldn't have been able to get off of the ground without him reading messages from the GM.  Edge's deranged role wouldn't have been promising without his feud with the man in the computer.

The computer general manager had the potential to lead to the return of multiple superstars as the conspiracy as to who was the man that was pulling the strings.  Everyone from The Rock to Stone Cold Steve Austin to Michael Cole himself were all rumored to be the one running the show and all had good reasoning behind it.  Each man could have their own agendas behind each and every message the GM sent to the laptop on the podium.

Since the day CM Punk went on his legendary shoot promo, the Anonymous GM angle has been killed off and taken over by Triple H in his role as the Chief Operating Officer.  Since that day, the podium and computer are still at every pay per view and RAW show but have yet to be used since that day.

Having the podium still around means that there is something in the works for this angle, yet nobody is really sure what that exactly is.

Expect the annoying "message received" sound to go off in the near future to contradict something that The Game is saying and eventually the invisible man will be revealed.

Should Die: NWo Recreation Attempt

7 of 7

I'm sorry to all those die hard fans who are waiting for this to happen, but this does not feel like a story that has substantial clout behind it.

The nWo has been done twice before and as powerful as they were, another crack at is seems like a cop out to a story that's been fading in popularity as of late.  CM Punk v. Triple H was something that every fan today could get behind as it pitted a future Hall of Famer and a legend in The Game against today's hottest commodity and advocate for truth and change in Punk.  Two guys who have nothing more than mutual disdain in the other's beliefs and motives brought excitement back to the main event scene on RAW without involving John Cena.

However,as  much potential this story had, it was quickly erased with the entrance of Kevin Nash and the emergence of more appearances by Johnny Ace.  Now Nash has been "fired" and Punk is once again in the WWE title picture, leaving Triple H to do nothing at this moment.

Hunter does, however, have to deal with R Truth and The Miz, or so we thought as he fired both men this past Monday.  Now, it appears as if there will be another attempt at recreating the nWo faction that was so popular back in the 1990's and WCW's most popular days of existence.

As much as some fans want to see their favorite faction of all time, I for one do not want to see it for a few reasons:

One reason is that all of WWE's latest attempts to create a faction have fallen through.  Nexus and Corre both had plenty of potential for major success but both fell through in a matter of months.  Evolution and D-Generation-X were the most successful stables in WWE history and ironically enough, they were both lead by Hunter.  I do not see Hunter leading the nWo this time around, so their expectant popularity will fall through in a hurry, especially if it is led by the immovable man Nash and followed by Truth and Miz.

Another reason is that it will only open the door for more and more old veterans to reappear and be part of the company again.  Time and time again the WWE has opened its door for appearances by guys like Roddy Piper and Brett Hart, whom appear on TV more often than guys like McIntyre and Zack Ryder, which is a major disappointment.  Older stars generate enthusiasm from fans when they appear on rare occasions, but when they are always around fans seem to care less and less about them being around.  Such is the case already with Nash, and has already lost the focus of the fans in the audience.

An nWo revival would spell doom for any and all hopeful superstars in the WWE trying to finally make in the company, which could lead to an expanded amount of displeasure and anger from fans all over the country.
