UFC 135 Fight Card: 5 Bold Predictions for Jones vs. Jackson

Brian MaziqueSep 24, 2011

Thank goodness the MMA world has fighters like Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. I enjoy the technical aspect of the sport as much as anyone. but every once in a while, it's nice to see a fighter who can just scrap. Rampage is that dude, and he has the personality and charisma to match.

On September 24th, Rampage will bring that into the Octagon to face the sport's best young star in Jon "Bones" Jones in a highly-anticipated light heavyweight bout. Here are five predictions for this clash.

Rampage Will Strike Effectively

1 of 5

Jones holds a huge reach advantage over nearly every fighter he'll face at light-heavy, and that won't be any different against Rampage. Even still, Rampage has shown the ability to engage his opponents in a stand-up position, even if it's briefly, like when he almost KO'd Rashad Evans.

Rampage is generally able to impose his will and land punches in nearly every bout. He will win a few exchanges in this bout.

Bones Will Not Be Intimidated

2 of 5

Jones is the anti-Rampage in many ways, and I believe he may generally be insulted by Rampage's pre-fight antics. He will take it to Rampage and won't go for the ground game as quickly, which is his decided advantage.

Bones will prove he can strike yet again. Consider this proof-point No. 4 after dispatching Brandon Vera, Vladimir Matyushenko and Shogun Rua with a variety of strikes.

Fight Will Not Go The Distance

3 of 5

There is a little too much genuine bad blood for this fight to go the distance. Jones is so dangerous and Rampage is rarely looking for anything but the stoppage. Don't step away from your television, as this one won't get out of the second round.

No Submission For Jones

4 of 5

Bones could probably win this fight by submission if he pressed it, but I think he wants to make another statement with this match. I expect him to try to be aggressive and use his reach to stop Rampage.

This is opening the only opportunity Rampage has to win the fight, but Jones is ultra-confident he can stop him.

Jon Jones Will Answer Questions About Moving To Heavyweight

5 of 5

Jon Jones will KO Rampage Jackson at UFC 135. The next megastar in the MMA world will be crowned tonight. He stands 6'4" and is a lean 205lbs.

The questions will begin about moving to heavyweight, with no other attractive options at light heavy besides a Shogun rematch or waiting for Anderson Silva to possibly move up.
